I think that is part of the issue, but it's also the fact that kids are playing baseball essentially year round now. It puts a lot more wear and tear on their arms.

At first glance, the numbers are not good from last year, but that changes if you look at the individual games. It looks like he had four games where he was roughed up which ballooned his ERA, but his numbers look good outside of those four games.

Look at the difference in production, not just average.
