Just gonna jump in here and say this is awesome! I love seeing this kind of user content and pointed discussion about actual football content. Thanks for helping to make this site worth the visit.
I think the big difference between this year and 2014 was that we really controlled the flow of the game in the second half of 2014. That game looks a lot different without the 99 yd "fumble" return for TD. I think our explosive offense this year gave us more hope later in the game and made it...
I don't think playing aggressive makes you inherently any less sound. It gives you a smaller margi n of error if your pressure doesn't get home or if the running back slips through a tackle, etc but I think that's a different issue, and a tradeoff I will gladly make.
I consider a sound defense...
Ya'll need to read the comments here
I found this comment particularly enlightening. Just think for a second about the difference in fan and administrative support for Clemson and us from 2008-2009 onward. Look at the level of investment it took in top tier coordinators (Morris and Venables...
Thanks for pointing out the real problem with letting mercer drive on us. This is how Duke beat us in 2014 and Pitt in 2015. It's our whole MO people! Control the clock on O and force the other team to be hyper efficient in execution of their own O and convert long drives for scores. If we're...
Excellent breakdown. We need to give you some software so you can draw on the screen. I know most of what you're saying but for people who don't know our personnel or alignments it's probably harder to follow.
What I find most interesting is how apparent it is that we could play much better...
Agreed AE, I don't think people are looking at this in a very rational way. I'm scared to death because we haven't historically done well against truly dominant defenses and no matter how ****ty an offense our defense will give up points somewhere. I predict a very close game with us eking out...
to add, UNC we may have folded but our defense was not the same without Gotsis in. We still should have won that game, but that was a deflating call especially against a running quarterback that we always struggle with. We also lost Andrews in the offseason which can't be overstated. He was a...
Why not both? This is just an effort for those already at the game to present a more unified fanbase. I generally preferred yellow/gold anyways for gameday, but now that there's a concerted effort to have the same color you can be sure I'll be wearing gold when I come back down for games. The...
Those three, whether this year or next year, have a real potential to change the face of our defense. Much more prototypical bodies than we've had and they all look like true play-makers on film. Will be surprised if at least one of those doesn't play this year and vie for a starting a position...
I'd be happy with this and the all whites for white-out games. Keeps a consistent branding image if we can actually stick to the right colors and not change shade every year.
So should we recruit more running backs since we didn't have enough last year? You can only plan for certain levels of extreme events. I'd say that the level of lineman we've had leave our program is relatively unexpected, as was the number of running back injuries last year.
We're missing...
I have to disagree, that has to be one of the worst I've seen. I also like the honeycomb helmets, so what do I know. We wear them sparingly and they look great with the all white uniforms, IMHO.
We keep talking about things that we have no control over, why not use some of the offseason energy on this board to brainstorm and commit to ideas that we as fans can actually work together on? I had some suggestions earlier, but maybe we're content to talk circles on other topics.
What's disappointing is that we seem to tread water in branding, fan intensity, and ultimately on the field performance.
We have an academic reputation that is well known in business circles for producing competent and successful engineers. Besides that, our brand is totally lacking as far as a...
