Just speculating here: I would think the new AD gave Key support. Key probably wanted to make changes but was hesitant given the situation. Once he got support from the new AD he started making moves.

GT by 14+ easily. We have turned the ship around. Clemson and Pitt both has top 10 DLs in college football this year and they abused our OL. The ole miss game was laying an egg. Jeff Sims will finally have time to throw and we steam roll Duke. I am not on drugs.
If he does well this season I think he should get a shot at HC. He is a Tech man. I am also anticipating a lot of coaches being fired before the season ends, so if we are looking to hire a good HC we will have a lot of competition.
I dont see the issue we paid him $11 million and we had to escort him to his car so no one robs him. They do this as a courtesy in vegas when you win alot of money without doing much.
The issue isn't we are Georgia Tech and we only get a certain type or player, so we need a coach who can coach that type of player. In CFB a coach alone cant do it all coach, recruit, etc. You need an entire staff. That is the issue at Georgia Tech, which is the same issue at most schools...
If you can bring a few d1 level players to come play at that level you will win a lot. The real question is can he win with the same or lower talent level than the opposing team?
