Not so sure about the source, but this appears to be a balanced view of the reopening results to date. https://www.the-sun.com/news/759445/coronavirus-cases-spike-germany-japan-china-lockdown/

True enuf. The more current data still points to a near 11% death rate-not good, but as usual there's the lack of testing issue. The main takeaway of the 3 week old article is imo---Sweden vs US = apples to oranges, for many reasons/facts.

So, if uNC, had never started on-line courses for jocks, would they have ever been found guilty of not having done anything useful at all, in educating jocks via on-line courses. :>/

Wonder why that is, huh? It's multi-faceted for sure, but do ya think that perhaps, maybe, it's possible, that mitigations impacted it a little? Still wanna book a flight to Stockholm tmw?

Probably longer since people aren't rushing to the "open" gate. Btw, what Kemp is doing is not what Sweden is doing (let er rip). The biggest flaw in Kemp's approach imo is, opening to some degree without testing and tracing in place.

People want reasonable answers now with reasonable accuracy to make life or death decisions on, and to try to reach a very difficult to achieve balance between larger death totals among the vulnerable and the economy. Trending data is necessary. Waiting until perfect data is available is not an...

Are the Swedes small gov people? Is it reasonable to conclude at this point that Sweden's higher numbers vs others is not related at all to the let it rip approach ?

This link may be old hat for some (mid- March), but I found it informative as to the: do-nothing approach, the hit it hard and reopen gradually approach, and the long term shut it down approach. It's long, but worth it imo...

I'd be interested in links that you could provide, where qualified people suggest hard and sustained complete shutdowns as a strategy. Georgia Tech also taught you about optimizing outcomes in scenarios with multiple variables. Dr. Fauci's staged/phased reopening strategy, seems a lot like just...

It isn't me, it's DeLong with his tongue in cheek. He actually disagrees with Krugman fairly often. His problem is that Krugman is usually able to dispose of his objections pretty quickly. But I don't know where you get the idea that Krugman is wrong very often. When it comes to economic...

Agree, but how realistic is this? Sars, Mers, and the common cold results from extensive efforts, don't exactly inspire confidence. Otoh, we are more advanced today and very motivated. Bottom line is, we definitely need it and realistically can hope for it.

Not that testing is simple, but rather the need for testing is obvious (simple)....before opening up prematurely, and by prematurely, I mean without testing capability.
