Well, to be fair, a 12 team college playoff probably makes winning the SEC superfluous. So you are right. Uga is lucky that they are ascending on the national level just as the mystique of SEC championships is starting to compare with playing in the Orange Bowl.
Thinking about the SEC...
That was my impression when we hired him. A lot of us went back and checked his record with successful defenses and it seemed the best that could be said was that he didn’t totally screw up programs or players that were already good though he did have a tendency to change jobs right before...
Not being an accountant I don’t know what kind of budgeting “tricks” are available to an athletic program.
Do they used anything like accelerated cost recovery, spreading capital expenses across several years, showing losses on paper that don’t really impact daily operations, etc ?
I also...
Like the overall thesis of your response with the added emphasis that Tech is on the rise.
But I just don’t see it the same way. Uga winning the SEC 30% of the time does not yet make them an established power. Don’t get me wrong, a few more years of winning the SEC consistently could...
You’ve lost me. Where did he actually build a defense? That’s what he will be asked to do at UNC.
Now, admittedly, our poor defense at Tech while he was here might be because he had other things on his mind, but I haven’t read any analyst calling him a defensive genius or suggesting he built...
I wasn’t suggesting it would solve GT’s problems. I’m suggesting that a national power uga, dominating the SEC and cleaning up on recruiting throughout the entire southeast makes GT’s problems harder to solve.
That and having him shooting 3s at the end instead of going inside was also a break for us. He had practically a career game except for costing the tigers a win.
Funny how much fun these threads are after a win.
Can you imagine Clemson fans? They had a comfortable lead several times during the game especially with a couple of minutes left in regulation and even in the first OT.
At home.
And they lost.
Nailed it.
The problem with sociopaths or conmen is that they are lost without their megaphone. Mack Brown, as questionable as his decision making is given this hire, will not Collins taking control of the narrative. Someone will chafe without being in the limelight.
He will not be able to constantly work the room in press conferences explaining what a total mess he was handed and how it will take 7 years to turn around the “disaster” of UNC football. It will be a fascinating dynamic for him to be judged only by results and not his mouth.
I’m still not sure what our ability is. 3 point shooting seemed to be a big difference maker against Clemson but we haven’t proven we can do that consistently. Same is true for rebounding, turnovers and free throw shooting. We always feel like we are hanging on by our fingernails because some...
“They will be fine” is not a reassuring answer. Sure, they will be a winning program, but will they continue to dominate uga? No evidence their mastery of the mutts will continue and uga’s position at the top of the SEC looks all but assured.
Saban would be loyal to the players he brought in or coached, not a new coach. If those players want to leave there is no reason for Saban to try to make them stay.
Movies that were good stories but felt pedestrian in their execution:
Maestro
The Boys in the Boat
Movies that delivered:
Oppenheimer
The Leftovers
But I’m still waiting for a great movie.
I’ve seen several small independent films but they’re not going to have mass appeal.
