I checked this am, and there's no deal. Reportedly, Tech set a deadline to reach a deal for last night because there is concern about mass defections in the portal if they don't get a hire in place asap.
O'Brien is reportedly out as well as a possibility. Not completely, but he's not a focused...
That’s not what I heard. I heard that they want both candidates (Fritz, Key, others) … actually interviewed. Less about demanding Key be hired and more about fairness.
I think it depends upon whether you’re a “crying on the inside” kinda clown or not. I would agree that the clown community has historically been underrepresented in the past.
This makes the most sense. My understanding is that Fritz has not agreed or may not even have been formerly interviewed and that’s what’s pissing off some key donors. (I.e., How can you offer jobs to people you haven’t interviewed and it’s insulting to Key. At least do it right.)
If Batt does...
Per Nola.com,
“… the Atlanta-Journal Constitution reported Georgia Tech had offered its coaching job to Fritz and was trying to get him to accept it immediately, and that if he did not agree to it Sunday, the school likely would move on to other candidates.
Fritz did not respond to a text...
If true, the hire is fine. Tech is the place for experienced coaches late in their career or less experienced ones early in their career.
Is it sexy? No. But practical? Yes. I would have preferred Key, but it’s a decent hire.
We can start discussing who to replace him with in 4 years.
Was Chadwell ever on the table?
His current salary is $850K and expected to earn $2.3M in bonuses ... which, based on CCU's performance, is highly likely. So Tech would have to offer a similar amount over a similar period. That's $3.2M over 6-7 years. And, because he's under contract for six...
There's no need to call a press conference on a slow news day. I expect Cabrera would want to be there. Check his travel schedule.
Mon or Tue is more likely. As to Chadwell, "we" have linked him to the Tech job. I'm not sure he has. No need to brief the team.
I’m optimistic that we will hire a good coach.
My only two concerns Re Chadwell are …
He’s interviewed at several P5 programs and not been chosen. Why? That’s a red flag.
Everyone seems to like his offense. Ok. But if it’s not an offense that produces NFL prospects, we are right back into the...
It all depends on how badly he wants a P5 job. His mentor works with Nebraska so it seems to make sense. I almost worked at Coastal. Beautiful campus and community. I’m not sure I’d leave. I do not think he would enjoy living in any big city given his past and what he has now.
I don’t know if he has even talked with Tech. He has been linked with VT, Tennessee, South Carolina, Auburn and Nebraska. Nebraska is the most likely spot for him.
But he HAS interviewed for P5 jobs but not gotten an offer. That’s a red flag. He has spoken of internal demons when the team...
