    Interesting Contrast in GT Pitching 2023 vs 2024

    I don't track homeruns allowed, but looking at the stats on theacc.com, I see that this year we have allowed 37 homeruns in our 21 conference games, whereas for the entire 2021 season we only allowed 40 homeruns in 36 games. I know we like to say "don't walk batters", but that is because when...

    2024 Season

    I'm not real big on calling out a little bending of the rules since I assume many do so, nor am I 100% convinced there is anything to this, but since it is UGa, why not spread a little gossip. See the linked YouTube video from the baseball account Jomboy alleging UGa's pitcher Mracna with using...

    Interesting Contrast in GT Pitching 2023 vs 2024

    Here are the numbers in conference play + UGa + NCAA Tournament games by season since I started tracking in 2019 (2020 season excluded since we only played one series): Note, these are for the top 11 or 12 pitchers by innings pitched, so the bottom of the roster guys who got thrown in there in...

    Miami Baseball

    A 🙁from me because you are correct. I've never thought about it that way, but you are absolutely correct, we just treaded water. And, on top of that, I bet the 50% that is opponent's win % took a hit since Miami's adjusted record is 15.1-24. So, probably not a great weekend for the ole RPI. I...

    2024 ACC Baseball

    BA must be projecting what they THINK will happen moving forward. There is no way that Southern is in if the season ended right now. They have a losing record overall, a .500 conference record, placing them 8th in the Sun Belt. ETA: Yes, they are projecting how they think the rest of the season...

    You are better off with runners at 1st and 2nd and 1 out compared to runner at 3rd with 2 outs. I know this is college ball and not MLB, so the numbers are probably a little different, but at the MLB level the run expectancy in an inning with 1st & 2nd and 1 out is 0.908 runs, and for runner at...

    2024 Season

    Great post, thanks for the examples. I'll take a shot at answering, but can't say I'll be 100% on this. Sorry for really long post. #1, remember my basic RPI comment, which is that RPI is just math. It doesn't have an agenda or a bias, it's just math. The formula is...

    2024 Season

    I can't see 14-16 doing anything for us. I even question if 15-15 would be enough. As to the tournament, the D1Baseball guys don't put much emphasis on those. Same goes for mid-week games. Their philosophy is that baseball is a game played in 3 game series and anything outside of that format is...

    2024 Season

    This is why we need to root really hard for NC State going forward. They are really close to that top-25 spot that would make those quad 1 games. They are at 29 right now but briefly cracked the top-25 before losing the last game in the UNC series this past weekend. I should note that, to my...

    2024 Season

    I'm now suspicious that one of you guys are Danny Hall or James Ramsey hiding behind an internet handle! The NCAA has fixed the RPI issue around the Sunday game against UGa and is now properly classifying it as a neutral site game. As a result our RPI went up 3 spots to 57. Marginal, as I...

    But that's what you want. Being out by 5 feet is preferable to UVa turning the DP. You MUST force the fielder to choose between DP or preventing the run. You CANNOT let them have both. Runner at 3rd and 1st, the runner at 3rd ALWAYS goes on contact, it should not even be a question.

    It was bad baserunning. It was a chopper where the first bounce was on the dirt around home plate, so no reason to freeze for fear of a caught line drive. It was hit maybe a few steps to the shortstop's right, but there was no concern with the 3B fielding it. However, the runner's first step on...

    We want to see NC State continue to rise in the RPI. With them cracking the top-25 our record in that important category jumped from 0-5 to 4-5 in a single day. Also, yesterday's game increased our RPI by 13 spots, not just 5. We went from 74 to 61.

    Fred, that's what I've been trying to point out for a good month now. Most recently my 10:58 AM post. I must not be doing a good job of writing clearly. It's obviously an error, presumably by how the location of CoolRay Field is coded, but someone in our athletic department needs to get it...

    @UVa Baseball

    Agree, Fred, about the BC series. If we take care of business that weekend I think we would all be pleased with how the seaosn has progressed. Just taking 2 of 3 against them would put us at 10-6 in ACC, 25-11 overall, and with an equal SoS as Virginia Tech our RPI would be a little higher than...

    @UVa Baseball

    Thanks for the report, Nuke. We know from last weekend that having a great Friday does not guarantee a good weekend. Keep the ball rolling, guys! I agree that if we keep winning and finish with a winning conference record RPI will take care of itself, and if not it won't matter. BUT I'm gonna...

    It would be hard for any team to look much better than the Jackets did tonight. About the only negative was the number of hits allowed, but several were hit softly. Got a little shaky in the 7th, but answered that loudly in the 8th.

    New Pro Jackets Progress

    Kyle McCann hit his first big league homer last night. For those of us watching from 2017 - 2019, this moonshot looks very familiar. He also gunned down Brendan Donovan for a K-DP. Sorry for the ads prior to the video...

    They are missing a couple of starters for tonight's game. Ike Irish (one of their top bats) is out, I know, and Collin Lacy mentioned another starter that I wasn't familiar with.

    Note that scoring in tha ACC is up quite a bit in general year over year. So, an improved ERA (6.61 vs 6.93 if I'm reading your post correctly) is actually a bigger improvement than it shows. I haven't looked this week, but after last weekend the overall ACC ERA per team is up over a full run...
