  1. Passing in 2014

I've got those gold colored glasses on this time of year too. You're right, though. We probably have the best overall receiving corps and the most accurate passers in the PJ era. I would like to see a passing game which is totally unpredictable. Throw it on any down except third and long...
  2. Recruiting Momentum

    Thanks for the excellent analysis!
  3. Recruiting Momentum

I've often wondered how much success on the field changes things. IIRC, we had a so-so class after our national championship year. We like to think we are close to breaking out, but from an objective, outside perspective we have been in a rut of mediocrity for several seasons now. And yet, we...
  4. Best DE tandem at Tech

Man! Seeing those names lights me up. We sure have had some good ones through the years. I'm not sure if there is a more important single defensive player in today's game than having at least one disruptive rush end.
  5. ESPN Q&A with Georgia Tech OL Shaq Mason

Injuries and position changes no doubt were big factors. But I think this is perhaps the biggest.
  6. Commits that signed elsewhere

Who was the defensive lineman who was one our biggest names a couple of years ago but Nick Saban came in and turned his head at the last minute? Has he played any for Bama yet?
  7. Team Ramblings - 6/25

Maybe the off season gold colored glasses, but I think between Whitehead, Stargell, and Freeman, someone will come through for us.
  8. 2014 Offense Prediction: Return of the Midline Lead Option

I didn't know exactly what that play was called nor everything going on in it. But it seemed to me every quarterback who touched the ball in our T game had great success with it. Maybe that says something about our DTs, I dunno. We ran it a lot but there always seemed to be a hole.
  9. What true Freshmen play this year?

Well, just crap. Something else to worry about. I had no idea there were strings attached on Whitehead. Some combination of Whitehead and Freeman has simply got to come through. Otherwise we don't have a pass rush.
  10. Two Newish Pass Concepts in Spring Game

I like the slant. Not a fan of the fade, at least for us. I think the pass is much more difficult that it looks. If you have a super accurate passer, it can be a good call. But in our scheme where passing is somewhere down the list of quarterback attributes, it is a pretty risky play.
  11. A few of my thoughts on Spring practice

This snap count thing worries me. Roddy commented on it, saying something like "we tend to snap on the same count a lot and the defense is jumping the play." Some times when they did that the quickest lineman who ever lived could not have gotten in position to block in time. On the plus...
  12. A few of my thoughts on Spring practice

I was pleased to see the game easilty available on ESPN3. It was a very clean broadcast; the action was lifelike and not shaky as it sometimes is on internet broadcasts. Agree with the earlier poster on Roddy. He sounded smooth as any pro and his insights were great since he played in the...
  13. A few of my thoughts on Spring practice

Are the enough differences in the two DE spots such that we couldn't line Whitehead on one side and Freeman on the other?
  14. Ted Roof having fun

Boomer has it exactly right as he so often does. If you look at his DC record and had never seen his early years with us, you would see a Mickey or Bud.
  15. Double Rush Ends

keep dreaming! That's what the off season is for. Two potent rushers would indeed change things up for the better.
  16. My Observations from the 4/12/14 Scimmage

    Good stuff, Jerry! Thanks!
  17. Justin Thomas update

I read the comments before I read the story. I think the worry is premature. The quotes sounded like so much coachspeak to me, just the things coaches always say about young players.
  18. Good piece on Freddie Burden

Sidewalk, you may have heard this, but Freddie's mother, Mrs. Dr. Burden, Registrar at Southern, is battling cancer or something else very serious.
  19. A few notes from practice Tuesday

I would put it more weasely, but that pretty much sums up my thought. We talk up our many solid players when we beat a middle talent team. Then when we play a Miami, a Clemson, a Georgia we go into frenzy mode about how badly we were out athleted. The B back in our system is a key role. We...
  20. 5 notes with CAM

I would love to see Paul Davis on the field as much as possible. Maybe I haven't seen enough of him to make a judgement but he seems to be always where the ball is. I don't know if it is instinct or vision, but he has that knack. Someone in another thread said he might make a good hybrid...
