  1. A real Debate ( sorry don't make this about CPJ vs CGC )

I follow Clemson a bit and admit Swinney fascinates me. Someone who knows him well and has for years swears he could run Fortune 500 company, and might yet. It is hard to define a "players' coach" but he is driven and drives his players and coaches. "All in" means something at Clemson and those...
  2. CGC Making His Media Rounds

He learned to leave the motor running.
  3. Jay Jones Transferring

If you were a QB who loved to chuck it deep, Johnson was your man. Ask Thomas.
  4. Jay Jones Transferring

Well, in his meager defense, Johnson never referred to it as the triple option, but as the spread option. So he could be technically correct though just as obtuse. Makes one wonder how he got into Ga. Tech.

Didn't we just know that Miami would be the first out of the box to cut corners?
  6. GT Player Deals

Exactly. A full 4-year scholarship has value far beyond the dollars so it is not like the athletes are all give and no get. I am not arguing they have no rights, but let's acknowledge that scholarship is literally priceless. Not to mention some, a lot, of those athletes could not get into a...

  8. CGC on Marty Smith's America the Podcast

Well, coaches are paid to win, after all. As for your last point, do you know any coach in the history of the sport who has been analyzed and critiqued like Dabo Swinney? And that is only a tad hyperventilating. (Saban has no personality, so he can't be included.)
  9. GT Player Deals

Clemson has issued what seems to be a comprehensive list of do's and don't's. It remains to be seen whether the athletes will abide by them or decide on America's favorite solution, sue. I think there are going to be real team splits when football linemen, punters, special teams, etc., see all...
  10. Demaryius Thomas Retiring from NFL

Just as I will always associate Butker with Georgia, Smelter was our gift to Virginia Tech.
  11. GT Player Deals

It potentially can be worse than you think. It is only a matter of time before a booster contacts a hot recruit and offers cash for an endorsement .. if the recruit enrolls at his school. And if those academic coordinators on various college coaching staffs think they have a problem monitoring...
  12. CPJ vs CGC

Nah, just picking at the reputation of some of those places. For a spell there we had a report of a shooting once a week. I eat there on occasion but the problem I have is in the inconsistency of the food. (Once I ordered grits, butter on the side. I was told they could not serve them that way...
  13. CPJ vs CGC

If you're going to Waffle House try to make sure there is a cop inside already.
  14. Name and Likeness Law Signed by Kemp

You are right of course, but my focus was on profit for the student. My son is a university professor and believe me, he roasts my ears about courses scheduled because they can get students to pay top dollar, And don't get him started on administrators.
  15. Name and Likeness Law Signed by Kemp

That is a remarkably short-sighted view of the value of sports in school. One might also make the argument, then that all academic courses should be eliminated, as they won't show a "profit" for many years. Title IX has been immensely beneficial at all levels.
  16. Name and Likeness Law Signed by Kemp

One of the broader aspects of this -- and I am in the athletes' corner almost all the way -- is how this money making venture will be governed and by whom. Are the athletes going to be hounded by "agents" day and night, at school, at home and, I betcha, on the practice field? And pray tell, who...
