It’s math. If Tech can’t keep the revenue coming in, it MUST reduce costs. Or declare bankruptcy.

Totally agree. But there will be a streaming component to replace cable distribution. As lucrative? No. This reminds me of the music industry. It used to be give away concerts to get people buy records. Now it’s giving away records to get people to go to concerts.

    Conference Realignment

If Tech wants to survive, it must deal with its long term debt. I can foresee a case that if it doesn’t, it will have to drop D1 football. Long overdue.

The SEC has no interest in Tech. Nor Clemson. The SEC prefers to expand its footprint and develop its existing coverage.

    Conference Realignment

Streaming isn’t profitable for pretty much anyone. As more people shift away from cable, it accelerates the decline in revenue for existing providers.

The reality is the current TV model is dying .. and quickly. Beginning in 2013, cable TV started experiencing a loss of subscribers, and that loss has only grown wider since. New competitors have emerged, challenging the legacy systems. Sling, Hulu, and others offer much less expensive...

There is no plan. It’s the college football equivalent of the Five Families fighting for control of turf before the Commission. Pro sports have league commissioners, media experts etc who help organize the sport for the benefit of all. CFB doesn’t. It’s literally the Wild West and survival of...

Jerry - none of those teams are among the Top 20 in viewership. And except for Clemson and FSU, none of the ACC is either. Without matchups to generate viewers, there’s no point. CFB is pulling itself apart and money is the fulcrum.

Washington State and Oregon State are toast. They will be forced into the Mountain West with a humongous drop in dollars and prestige. Cal and Stanford are likely to go to the Big 10. Don’t bother waking the ACC. They are comatose for another 10 years or so.

    Conference Realignment

I call bull****. There’s somewhat of a tacit agreement that whoever poaches, has to take ALL the Carolina teams. I don’t see that happening.

Correct me if I am wrong, but FSU athletics run by a non-state institution, the FSU Athletic Association.

    Conference Realignment

There’s no reason for the ACC to sue unless FSU states their intention to refuse to comply.

And who would ever trust FSU again? Nuclear option.

    Conference Realignment

I will bet that the University hasn’t run this by the State. But let’s say it works. Then what? I think it’s more likely if this gets legs, the entire ACC considers it. It’s the easiest way for PIF to infiltrate college athletics.

    Conference Realignment

I think this is interesting but THOSE are professional franchises with consumer demand you can monetize. FSU, and college sports, isn’t. Unless you open a door you can’t walk back through. Do you want the Saudis to control US college football?

    Conference Realignment

Hard to say. FSU WANTS to be nationally relevant again, but it’s increasingly likely that’s not going to happen. It’s the prettiest girl in the sorority who spends Friday nights at home. There‘s a feeling of desperation here.

    Conference Realignment

It’s an interesting idea. Capitalize the FSU athletic department and sell shares. The problem with FSU is nobody cares.

    Conference Realignment

As long as conferences run college athletics, it will always be a tribal mess.

    Conference Realignment

I am increasingly of the opinion that the NCAA should model after the England Premier League. There are basically two leagues … Premier and Championship. Everyone earns two points for a win, none for a loss. The bottom three Premier League teams drop down, the top 3 Championship teams move up...
