It’s just a fire zone blitz. The idea is you bring pressure from the linebacker/db spot and drop the DE to confuse their blocking. We ran it all the time during Tenutas tenure. Just like any other blitz, the issue becomes when the pressure doesn’t get home. The DE is supposed to cover the flat...
Anae is making 550k
Enos is making 550k
Sowder is making 126k
Whipple was making 850k
For reference we paid 800k for long. And owe him 850 for next year no matter what he does. Hopefully we have an expensive TE coach.
The only one out of our price range would be Riley and they’ll probably give...
No wonder Saban keeps winning. Look at this:
2014-2016 offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin would leave one game before the season ended to become FAU head coach. Now at Ole Miss
2013-2016 WR coach Billy Napier left after 2016 to become Arizona State OC and then UL Lafayette head coach. Now at UF...
Like Ellis’ bio.
Those are the up and coming coaches we need to go after. This is key’s one shot, we have to build a good staff around him.
Of course, we should be hitting up tashard, maybe AHC title to grease the wheels? Wouldn’t be the first time he transferred to us from the Big XII
I think with the money we saved from paying another schools buyout should be enough to grab a good OC and pay long. If we hired anyone else he wouldn’t have been retained, no reason not to give Key the same option.
There are plenty of G5 OCs that would jump at the chance to be our OC.
I don’t think we are strapped for cash enough to keep someone we don’t want. We are already trying a brand new HC, I dont want to add new OC on top of that.
Just like Long, I think it takes more than one year to really install an offense. That isn’t saying Long is good, but there is a learning curve when starting up somewhere:
Coaches have to learn what guys do well/can’t do.
Players have to learn the scheme, playbook, and how to do it cohesively.
OC options:
Willy Korn, CC co-OC qb coach
Robert Anae, Syracuse OC
Garrett Riley, TCU OC
Andrew Sowder, Kent state OC
Mark Whipple, formerly Nebraska OC, Pitt OC
Okay so we have Weinke, Long, and I believe Tillman under 2 year contracts. Everyone else is up for renegotiation. We need a RB and OL coach.
Move Long to TE coach or let him leave. Go get the best OC we can find and let him hire/fire whomever he wants, even Long if he doesn’t like him...
Mocks mean very little right now but 2-3 round sounds about right. I definitely don’t see the falcons taking a RB at 13. Maybe with the second pick or trading down, but for reference the first rb was drafted at 36 last year. I could see him sneaking into the end of the first round with a great...
