  1. Going on the Record

I am going with a little bit of optimism and saying 5. I am really torn between 4-5 and decided to be optimistic since it is February. The beginning and end of the schedule set up for a slow start and a slow finish. GT has one 1 road game each of the last 3 years and have 6 road games this year...
  2. 2022 Spring Football Practice

I have great concerns about both lines, We lost as much off the DL as we did the OL, arguably more. Both performed very poorly last year. Nothing else we want to do will matter if we don't see significant improvements in both. I don't see us having any extra DL to move to the OL.

I'm sort of in the RonJohn camp. I don't listen to any of CGC's or his staff's interviews or read any reports on them. I am focused solely on what occurs on the field next fall. Hopefully that includes alot more winning than the last 3 seasons. Either they will win or they won't. I'm also...
  4. 2022 Spring Football Practice

Looks like the roster has been updated on ramblinwreck.com. I notice that neither Nick Pendley or Ryan Spiers are listed anymore.
  5. 2022 Spring Football Practice

Given the weakness of our OL so far and the uncertainty in it for this season I like the 12 idea. It at least puts a couple more bigger guys out there that maybe can help block in the run game and be a quick release valve in the passing game.

To clarify, my point about CGC's contract is that I don't think he will be fired until after the fully guaranteed part of his contract expires (which happens after the end of season 4). I can't see GT being willing to spend an extra $3M+ to get rid of someone 2 months earlier when it won't...

I agree 137. If we make a coaching change my expectation is we are going to be hiring either a P5 coordinator or a G5 HC. Maybe we go outside the box and hire an NFL asst - but regardless I don't expect us to hire a 'name'. In the end it is about getting the right guy that is the right fit...

I don't think TStan's employment is as tightly tied to Collins as some fans think. His #1 task is getting GT AA's financial house in order. He has been doing a good job of that. That gives him a chance to survive. I also question whether the 'money to fire Collins' is truly there. I think that...
  9. CGC on 680 this AM

The portal has been a much bigger deal in college basketball than football for some time so I use that as a comparison. So far it has not stopped increasing, even with lots of players not finding homes - I sort of expect it to do the same in football. The rate of increase will decline but I...
  10. CGC on 680 this AM

I'm assuming the OL we lost are the best ones we had because they played. Now our OL had lots of injuries so that plays into it, but then i'm also very conservative about returning injured players. Until they show they are 100% and playing better than what we had (which was bad) you can't assume...
  11. CGC on 680 this AM

Minihan graduated and is moving on. We lose 3 full time starters on the OL - Minihan, Johnson and Cochran and a part-time starter when healthy in Cooper. We get one tackle back in Williams and Vaipulu started 5 of 8 games he appeared in last season. Lay started 5 of the 10 games he played, not...

Looks like Domineck is likely to end up doing well in his transfer, good for him. He was offered by Michigan St yesterday. He also reports offers from Auburn, Arkansas, Penn St, Indiana, Coastal Carolina, and UCF amongst others.
  13. CGC on 680 this AM

They were largely our best OL we had last year. Minihan, Cochran and Johnson all started every game they played last year (34 starts in total) Minihan started 28 and appeared in 34 games over the last 3 seasons. Johnson started all 21 games he played the last 2 years after starting 19 games and...
  14. Transfer Portal: Who's Coming and Going (2022 Roster)

Actually GT was 6th - NCST's class was rated slightly higher. At the end of the day though GT is part of what I call the large, mushy middle. A bunch of schools whose recruiting is all very similar (I don't believe recruiting is enough of a science that it is likely accurate to multiple decimal...
  15. Transfer Portal: Who's Coming and Going (2022 Roster)

We are going to need our really young guys and transfers to step up in a big way to get back to .500 this year. 2019 was a transitional class, but even so, 5 of the top 6 rated players on 247sports and 6 of the top 7 on Rivals have transferred out, and the multi-year transfers we took that year...
  16. Transfer Portal: Who's Coming and Going (2022 Roster)

Right now on paper we have alot more production leaving through the portal than coming in from the portal, I think that is what concerns fans, We have 2 transfers who clearly transferred up - Gibbs and Ivey. The issue is we are losing alot of players who played significant snaps -even if for a...
  17. We need to jump ship

    FWIW, here are the in-state, in-state + surrounding state % as well as that percentage when taking into account international enrollment in parentheses at various public schools around GT. GT - 58.9 (52.5), 69.2 (61.7) UGA - 88.7 (87.2), 93.4 (91.8) Clem - 62.3 (61.7), 73.8 (73.1) TN - 83.3...
  18. We need to jump ship

GT is not nearly as much of a Southern school as many fans would think. Of the students that come from the United States you have 58.91% from GA, then 5.66% from FL. After that the rest of the top 10 states are NJ, CA, NY, VA, NC, PA, TX, MD. Not exactly a list of "Southern" states. Just over...
  19. GT hiring former Miss St and Florida DL coach David Turner

I'm thinking Thacker is going to be DC only, with no position responsibilities and likely input from Collins as well.
  20. We need to jump ship

Fans who think GT would have continued to be a strong FB program just because it stayed in the SEC are likely mistaken. The more likely outcome is GT becomes the Atlanta version of Vandy. The schools that perform most consistently in all the conferences are state schools in large population...
