I'll be shocked if we score 27 pts. That would be our best offensive performance all year. FSU took the top off their secondary with speed and kept possession with TE play and hard runs from their backs. I don't think we've got the ability to attack their defense like that.
Yeah, they gave up some big plays on defense, but forced a lot of negative plays too. I don't like the match-up with their DL vs our OL. Might be a lot like the UVA game in that regard. Their QBs looked really bad, though. The rest of their offense seems decent, but couldn't overcome it.
I forget exact dates, but Key almost backed out after Goose fell through and almost stayed at Bama. After the second season, he was so fed up that he was interviewing around and almost went to USC. He was talked into staying because the view was likely that he'd be interim midway through last...
I wouldn't be terribly surprised if the end result is:
HC - Brent Key
OC - Godsey
Some other staff changes underneath. FWIW, Godsey was in talks to be OC when Collins was hired, but it fell thru. That's why Brent was looking to leave for USCe, because him coming here in the first place was...
Their new HC threw the chain in the trash can. They're facing a bigger culture change than us and looked better against FSU than the score indicates. Their offense looked about like ours vs UVA for very similar reasons: they didn't have a QB ready. I always guess low scoring vs high scoring...
Collins had Pyron running the scout team. Key immediately moved him over to get actual practice reps, but he'd had 2 weeks of practice in the offense by the UVA game. It's understandable that he wasn't ready. I don't put that blame on key.
The bar for him to be considered as a serious candidate was 5-3. It's still highly unlikely, but shouldn't be discounted until it's impossible. If you can find a homerun hire, I wouldn't wait though.
It was a 1 pt win over a 2-7 Virginia Tech team. I think my original post was adequately celebratory and have subsequently responded to posts critiquing my take and should be read in the full context of the conversation, not cherry picked.
He reminds me of the UVA QB with the weird throwing motion. Given that comparison and the Tebow comparison earlier ITT, it's not the end of the world, but those passes to the sidelines seem to hang in the air for a long time to only come away with a short completion and his arm angle will lead...
