    RIP MBB Pres Judy

Press was a good friend and a great person. He had just graduated in 1967 before I arrived at Tech in 1968. A very good player, he was drafted by the NBA Cincinnati Royals and ABA Kentucky Colonels, but opted to go into coaching instead of pro basketball. He helped coach basketball for Coach...

Bobby Dodd Renovation in the NE Stands

I imagine someone in the athletic department told security to do what they did. I also imagine the local police were were paid as off duty security officials like most athletic events do. The athletic department owns the negative outcomes.

Bobby Dodd Renovation in the NE Stands

It was a club that Tech lettermen could join when they lettered in any sport. It began in the 1930's and was changed to the Letterwinner club around 1976 when women began lettering. Women were not allowed into the T-Club. Coach Hyder was in the T-Club and lettered in 4 sports.

this week's game is very very exciting for Bill Curry

I first met 27 year-old Bill in November 1969 in the old GT football weight room where he was bench pressing tons of weight. The next day the Baltimore Colts played the Falcons at Grant Field. The next day when the Colts team busses arrived at Grant Field, Johnny Unitas nodded at me from his...

The Atlantic - How Did Georgia State Knock Off FSU

The Atlanta, founded by Ralph Waldo Emerson, never did sports. This is probably why.

    FSU Post game thread

It is great to get a top-10 victory, the last being 2015 with the miracle of North Avenue win over FSU. Unfortunately, football was a 3-9 year (1-7 ACC). Those of us, who were at Tech in the coach Bud Carson/AD Bobby Dodd/Presidents Harrison, Hansen, and Pettit era (68-72) ups & downs seasons...

Same sweating for Fall Quarter registration. My favorite game in the Heisman was the basketball game with the Dean Dull - led GT faculty, vs. the Atlanta Playboy Bunnies.

Also on the North End was the T-club room (disbanded in 1976 when women became letterwinners, now called the Letterwinner Club. Also there was the mandatory Athletes Study Hall run by retired Academic Director of Athletics George "Goose" Slayton Sunday through Thursday nights every quarter...

Bobby Dodd Renovation in the NE Stands

This is how I remember most locations over 50 years ago, which had not changed much over the previous decades. I lived in Towers Dorm and ate very meal except Sundays at the Athletic Training Table located between the East Stands and the Naval Armory at the corner of Techwood and 3rd (now Bobby...

    Dennis Scott Jersey Retirement

Posted on his LinkedIn is BS 1990 and Executive MBA 2023. The 2023 degree enabled his number to be retired. If Dennis got a BA in 1990 or 1993, I do think Coach Cremins would have had his number retired sooner than 2024.

    Offseason Media 2024

My short term memory loss made my brain behind the times. I like Georgia Southern. Having two advanced degrees from Georgia Southern College and coaching basketball there in the late 1970's as we were planning to bring back football under Coach Irk Russell, I tend to remember how good they...

    Offseason Media 2024

Speaking of off-season media (or medium in this case), the long-awaited EA Sports College Football 25 game drops at midnight tonight. My son tells me that each player who is named in the video game receives $600 and a free game from EA. Unknown what the schools' copyrighted material/logos...

    CDS staff speculation.

From what I read in the Jul1 2023 NCAA decision to increase the number of basketball coaches from four to six, with the additional two not being able to recruit off campus, Tech already had 6 coaches when James was added as a special assistant to the head coach. This ruling eliminated the roles...

Al Ciraldo? What was he like?

I met Al in Sep 1968 when I reported to Tech on basketball scholarship. He had nicknames on the radio for many of the basketball players, such as Rich Yunkus the "Benton Bomber" from Illinois, Bob Seemer "Buffalo Bob", Frank Samoylo "the Blackhawk of the Hudson" from NY. I was called "Little...

If they are as good as the coaches and they think they are, coach should be able do usually play ten players a game all season and peak at tournament time. That way the team will be less fatigued and can work around injuries from the regular season. And there is less likelihood of players...

    Practice

Oh the memories! What did I get from my 4 years at Georgia Tech? I got shoes, a sweater, a jacket , a ring, a blanket, a degree on the dean's list (a 3.6 GPA taking 21 hours my last quarter), and an Army officer commission. And lots of great memories and friends. It really did not matter that...

Thank you. I am having fun in this forum, learning from Tech fans much of the "new" basketball that has come upon us in recent years. As we age, I find that long-term memory is more abundant that last year or even yesterday. So much has changed and I have been having to catch up on what's...

It is sad and angers me that UGA has this video of our players banned from reposting, maybe because they lost on the Tech court or maybe it is just UGA, period. So sad that content is controlled for whatever reason. Anyway, THWG.

It may be more difficult for this offered recruit (transfer) to fade away with his father as Tech Hall of Famer James Forrest. Unfortunately, the vetting the son for academic eligibility early for a transfer student halted his enrollment last summer. Nor will it be difficult for the...

I believe Georgia Tech has a bright future in participation in post season play. As always, the correct forces of basketball nature must occur to qualify. Win over 70 % of the games, the more the better and in the upper half of the ACC, giving a NET score below 68. Play non-conference...
