  1. Reflections on the National Championship Game

Yep. Lots of money. Top team in the state. Calculus? What's that? Tons of great players and as the flagship university he would have had his pick of the litter. He must have been crazy to stay at Tech but he believed in the school, loved the fans, appreciated the Atlanta media and he...
  2. Reflections on the National Championship Game

Good Lord, beating LSU with YA Tittle in Baton Rouge would have been one of Coach Dodd's early memorable wins that showed the SEC that there was to be a new force to be reckoned with. Maybe Coach Collins can get a similar program changing win this year. Lots of opportunities to make a splash...
  3. Reflections on the National Championship Game

Was that the year Jerry Stovall ran a kickoff back for a touchdown for the Tigers? Seems like that was at Grant Field and I vaguely remember seeing it but I am not sure of the year. Boy, the thought of playing LSU, Alabama, UGA, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida, and God only knows who else every...
  4. Reflections on the National Championship Game

I haven't checked but are you sure it was not 1960? LSU was good all those years so it would not surprise me. Come to think of it, I cannot think of a time they were ever really bad. Mediocre or just pretty good from time to time but LSU has never been awful in my 50 years of watching them.
  5. Reflections on the National Championship Game

Imagine, a Heisman Trophy winner doing it again on the big stage just to prove he could do it anytime he wanted. Dizzy Dean famously said: "If you can do it, it ain't bragging" Burrow did it...again.
  6. Reflections on the National Championship Game

Dodd hated playing LSU at Tiger Stadium at night. But he really did not have any choice. It was Baton Rouge or playing the Mississippi schools that could not make a decent pay day. So, he took the money. In 1959, on Halloween night, Billy Cannon had his "Heisman Moment" with a long punt...
  7. CPJ interview - Nov 11

That's a good story but I got that beat: Clemson was playing Alabama some time in the mid 1960s. Clemson was famous for big, albeit slow, linemen while Alabama was notoriously, small, fast, and mean. The press loved the theatrics and spectacle of big Clemson against highly rated but much...
  8. CPJ interview - Nov 11

Frank Howard was nicknamed the "Bashful Baron of Barlow Bend" Alabama. You should be commended for capturing the essence of the world according to Frank and his um, unique lexicon. My dad went to an Atlanta TD club with Frank and the coach at Wake Forest Peahead Walker headlining an all star...
  9. Next schedule brutal... whatever

That would be a nice improvement from where we ended last year. However, regardless of how tough or not the schedule is will not matter if something is not done to improve that PFF rating of 130th for the offensive line. I don't know how they come up with that or how valid the methodology is...
  10. Next schedule brutal... whatever

I want a tough schedule...but not when we are staring another sub .500 season in the face. At present, I am not complaining about Gardner-Webb or Duke or Syracuse. Let's beat Duke, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, UVA, and Pitt. Then we talk about winning the Coastal and talking smack like Miami.
  11. CPJ interview - Nov 11

Any opponent demands better preparation than what we saw that day. Hopefully, they have learned a lesson and will play hard next year in every game. It will be an uphill climb for sure.
  12. CPJ interview - Nov 11

Well, that kind of tells you something doesn't it?
  13. CPJ interview - Nov 11

We already have two elite programs that we are a long way from being competitive and the last thing we need is another guaranteed loss. It is going to be hard enough to get to bowl eligibility as it is.
  14. Nate Woody . . .

I greatly appreciate the work Coach Roof did...as a player. Let me tell you, when he hit a running back they went backwards, there was none of this falling forward stuff. As a coach? Not so much. I am sure he gave it all he had and has nothing but the best wishes for his alma mater but man...
  15. Minnesota Cheaters?

Did they still have that 400lb tackle from last year? Impressive any way because Auburn's strength was supposedly the defensive line.
  16. Minnesota Cheaters?

Good. Now I can troll my Auburn in laws mercilessly. See? There is always a bright side to everything...unless we are talking about UGA. I have tried very hard to be understanding and unbiased about the Dwags for over 30 years now and looking back to one time I wanted them to win... Nope...
  17. CPJ interview - Nov 11

Absolutely true but so many times we had a chance for a signature win and let it slip away, the FSU game being the most well known but we had a highly ranked Arizona team on the ropes and lost to them as well. We had some talent on those teams but not enough to overcome so pretty mediocre to...
  18. CPJ interview - Nov 11

Bill Lewis did not beat a lot of teams, UGA does not have anything to be proud about from that era except their fans leaving the Gator Bowl during the third quarter of another Gator beatdown.
  19. Minnesota Cheaters?

Hell, just give Minnesota the plays because it will not matter. Auburn is going to run their sorry tails right out of the stadium.

Its not "astonishing" when you consider who is doing it. Then, the astonishing part is that the number is so low.
