Dodd said that opposing coaches would take a calculus book lay it in the hands of a prospect and say: "Think you can pass this?" Best technique of negative recruiting I can think of for some recruits.
Yep. You are right. Did not look like Tarzan...but he sure as hell did not play like Jane. Fine football player among quite a few others for Chan. Phillip Wheeler was another fine linebacker along with Albany's own Daryl Smith.
Lothridge and Joe both finished runner up in the Heisman. Joe not winning was a travesty. Billy not so much as he lost to Roger Staubach but he was a very good quarterback, place kicker, and punter. Lothridge beat UGA three years in a row.
Beats me. The only people qualified to do the rating are the players and I guess Coach Collins. Chan had a guy that looked like he trained on twinkies. Kind of short for the position, pudgy looking, but damn when the lights came on he was all over the place making tackles and sacks. I think...
Geoff reminds me a good bit of former Florida coach Ron Zook. Both can recruit and sell an idea like nobody's business but the day to day management of a team, especially the discipline aspect remains a mystery. I think he would make someone an excellent GM or just recruiting coordinator.
I don't know...I don't think it is nearly as much fun as Canesinsight or Gator Bait when the knives are out and they have no qualms about going after players. Maybe because they are getting paid anyway.
Your optimism does you credit...do I agree that we will benefit at the expense of the elite factories? Not for a minute. The rich will get richer and the 100 or so bottom feeders will see a gap widen between them and the two dozen football factories. IIWII
Must have been quite a let down for Wildcat fans. A bona fide 5 star at Northwestern is scarce as hen's teeth and then the bum ends up looking like Tarzan and playing like Jane.
"...Venables was a yeller and a screamer..." Does this mean the get back coach is out of a job? I know he (Venables) was very good but did not understand that the complexity of his defense was a factor in keeping the first string in so much. In any case, it worked.
Thank you but if I had a REALLY good memory and was totally consumed by this stuff, I could remember how many of those guys are good and how many were clipboard holders. One thing is for sure, there will be a lot of coming and going around that program for the next few weeks which may benefit...
Do these rankings take into account the players leaving? In that case, I would wonder about how UVA is ranked ahead of anyone given the attrition that has taken place. It SEEMS (memory foggy here) like there was some ridiculous number of Cavaliers leaving to enter the portal.
A truly "hot" quarterback and a couple of great receivers along with a competent offensive line will decimate any defense with the rule changes being what they are in favor of the offense. All too often, I see a quarterback drill a pass to a receiver who was well covered but the pass is just...
Punting an average of once a game made the problems even bigger. It is idiotic to do this on a regular basis.
Thank you for your insight but I would rather run the triple option, all things being equal.
If I had a defense like Alabama or UGA, I might be punting on third down. The Presbyterian College coach Kevin Kelley, a high school coaching legend in Arkansas tried this last year with dismal results.
PC did not try a field goal but did try 48 onside kicks recovering 9 of them
They punted...
