Yes, especially encouraged by Big Bee(Byron G.). He was an All-American at Texas Tech, farm near Athens, started coaching over there in the pit. He and the others I listed all told me to go to State for Business and Baseball. I wanted Tech, but everything was scholar-shipped over there between academia & athletically. Even the Pro Baseball team that offered 8k, wanted me away from Engineering. They kept saying, you’ll need Robinson Business to learn how to handle your money. Baseball is your future. We all have regrets. I have given 100x more money to Tech over the years than GSU. I only took a few Grad. classes at GT when State was full during my time of day. We had State guys playing in the Tech Band. Funny story. Al called me up one night and asked if I could get to the Varsity pronto. I was a kid, grabbed a bus and a cab home afterwards. He was recruiting two Ohio boys and a Indiana kid for hoops. These guys were huge. No coaches around. Big Al was in charge of the visit. I told those guys, they had to come to Tech or it would be the mistake of their life. I was right. Al reeled two of them in.
