Starting a true freshman PG is scary in our conference, but coach showed confidence in JA to go do him, and it’s panned out so far. He’s used his TOs to keep guys rested and performing since we are backed in to playing 6 or 7 guys for 95%+ of the minutes. The defensive zones and switches we throw at teams warm my heart.
Bruh. I am a big fan of CJP. Love that he is using social media to try and get people out into the stands. He also gives us a great chance at each of the games we play. I firmly believe he bends and twists his schemes to maximize the output from the guys. UVA is going to be a HUGE challenge, but I’m happy with our chances for a couple of reasons that have already been mentioned. 1) Home court advantage. We have been sneaky good at home under CJP. The boys get up for conflict and are ready to go to war when inside the friendly confines of McCamish. 2) Rest = Best. The guys have had some extra time to stay off their feet and get healthy. We have a streak going so should ride positive momentum and benefit IMHO from playing the #2 team. It’s like built-in protection from the team getting big heads. 3) Pace of Play. I believe both teams are going in with the intention to limit possessions and think our defensive effort to date bodes well for limited possessions. Especially given us having Jose (its cold out on the streets for a true freshman PG in ACC play) running the ball. He hasn’t shown cracks yet from the pressure but this is going to be his biggest game to date. It also helps CH2 get back into the flow. 4) Fire and Desire. We have a chance to make a statement to the conference that last year’s wasn’t a fluke. That pre-December has been put to rest. That the team is legit with all our guys healthy and playing. I have been impressed with the way that CJP relates to the players (from the outside looking in of course). I think he’ll have them jacked up and ready to go get some Thursday night. Finally, I have loved seeing the way Coawinch has adapted what we do to fit what the guys need. Moving Lammers to the 4 was not a normal move for a coach when he is shutting down the paint and rim, but we did it for the offensive benefit to the team and it’s worked. Starting a true freshman PG is scary in our conference, but coach showed confidence in JA to go do him, and it’s panned out so far. We FINALLY play to win the first and last 5 minutes of each half. Something we consistently failed to do under previous coaches. I think we will see us go big and attack down low to try to get UVA into foul trouble early and often. I also think it will work. Go Jackets! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
