Well, we spent the last 3 years playing 2 hand touch in our spring games, and not going full speed in practice, and we went 14-34 over the last 4 seasons. UGA on the other hand, has full contact spring games, something they call “Bloody Tuesday” in practice weeks, and are the defending national champs, 13-0, and 47-5 in the last 4 seasons. Granted, UGA has way more depth if someone were to get hurt in practice. They can afford to lose a projected starter or 2 much more than us or just about anybody else in the country for that matter. But they don’t go easy just for the sake of saving guys. There is a balance between not getting your guys hurt in practice, and actually getting them 100% game speed reps. But if you’re going to be a tough team who’s going to be strong and physical, you gotta be physical in practice. That’s not something you can just flip the switch on for 12-15 days a year. It’s gotta be something to instill into the culture of your team. Doing it for the 100+ practice days you get a seasons is how you do that
