We would have smoked UVa with a healthy Jeff Sims. Our defense is good but they could not get anything going despite Gibson going 3 and out every possession and giving them a short field a couple times too. Interesting to play the what-if game this season had we closed out Duke in regulation (Sims was injured on our first OT possession if you remember).

Hokies leading Duke after the first quarter.

The Hokies players have not given up. They have heart. Can they last 4 quarters, though?

Navy is trying to hang with Notre Dame, but they just don’t have the athletes. If they were in the neighborhood of having the same class of athlete, they’d be winning and possibly running away with the game, but Notre Dame can just break tackles.

Edit: ND just blocked a punt—maybe their second blocked punt?

But they have the great equalizer so that shouldn't be a thing.

TV blackouts are killing this sport. I get they're trying to get people to games (and watch regional networks), but that presumes they're fans of the teams playing. Instead, they're turning away the eyes of mildly interested people. How can you become a fan that eventually goes to the games if you never see the teams close to you play?

The “great equalizer” is the difference between them having a shot to hang in the game vs having no shot at all.

ND is 6-3, lost to marshall, who is 2-3 in their conference, and lost to Standford who is 1-6 in their conference. Their biggest margin of victory this year was 23 against a 4-6 UNLV team and the lead is 22 for ND over Navy at half time. But yeah, they sure have a great shot to hang in there when nobody else could with a different offense.

After watching the first half, yes Navy has a better shot running their current offense than a more “conventional” one.
Navy’s biggest issue is that they can’t tackle or outrun Notre Dame’s players.
