Some may see this movie as sentimental popcorn shlock, some as capitalism porn, and some may see it as the “Sea Biscuit” of athletic apparel promotion. It is entertaining and appropriately dramatic, even if you already know the details of the story and all the personalities involved. It seemed to me to be a timely subject matter given the discussions of NIL on this board. The movie reminds us of how we got here and reminds us that the marketing of sports figures was largely exploitive and rarely compensated the producers (the athletes) in ways commensurate with their value. Michael Jordan was the phenom that began to shift the currents in a new direction.
