Rutherford Staying at GT

I'm going to spin this the other way... what was wrong with our coaches making it clear to one of our most valuable players that he was worth less to the program than some unproven guys coming from G5 schools or an unproven guy who just spent a year at South Carolina?

I actually don't feel that way towards our coaches (or towards the 3 WRs coming in, I'm excited about them all, was just trying to use a bit of hyperbole to prove a point), I was playing Devil's Advocate. Nor do I have any issues with Malik. But it's funny how in your eyes Malik is the bad guy and that his three years here working his tail off and making big catch after big catch after big catch and being a guy Haynes King can count on equated to him "milking GT's NIL" rather than looking at it as GT decided that it's worth it to spend a bit more on a guy you KNOW can do the job and wants to do the job and that everyone loves. Our coaches and staff have to make business decisions and in this case they decided Malik was worth whatever extra might be coming his way. I'm all on board with that. Just as I am not knocking them for apparently deciding that we couldn't spend a large chunk of our NIL on ES (though who knows what will happen there considering he hasn't actually signed anywhere).
Yes he was wrong. That absolutely did not belong in the public space. I would never run around at work telling everyone I was squeezing the boss for more coin. It’s a private matter. I guess some people feel differently these days, but if you did that to me at my company I’d show you where the door was.

You act as if you know what "did that to me" means but you most likely don't. It's not that people feel differently. It's that some, like me, won't judge others without knowing all the pertinent information. If I was your employee and I was loyal to you for multiple years working my tail off for you and you treated me like a mushroom while hailing unproven people from the outside I'd feel like you were kicking me to the dirt. If you "did that to me" you would know where the door was because you'd have heard it closing behind me as I left. I've been on both sides, management and employee. I can see both sides. I totally understand the POV you've taken. I don't even completely disagree with it nor do I completely agree with it because I don't know what's happened behind closed doors and I don't know what was said and what wasn't said in private that precipitated the moves both sides made. I think we are both glad he's back, at least I hope you are (I think you said you were so I'm assuming you are).

Posted in the other thread but the Height returning rumor definitely has legs per KQ.
But hasn't Height already committed to another program? That would seem to be a little more problematic than Rutherford, who made no such commitment. I guess he can recommit but I'm not sure what, if any, rules apply in that situation.

I don't have any idea of what the team chemistry is with Eric and Malik with the rest of the team but I wonder how open the arms are going to be.

With Malik, I can see them wide open but Eric has been in the portal almost three weeks.

I assume Malik will play Friday.

The receiver room has posted a lot of love for both of them the last few weeks. I think the arms would be wide open there at least.

I suspect players are happy when a teammate gets paid.

Not sure what the rules are about transferring twice in a single window. But KQ seems to insinuate he could get it done by the time the portal window closes on Friday. Basically entering the portal, signing with Texas Tech, re-entering the portal, and signing with GT by the time the window closes.

Regardless, there’s nothing preventing Height from coming back this fall. Just last year Kadyn Proctor left Alabama for Iowa in January and transferred back to Alabama in April.

Why would that be a problem. He is a good player. He makes GT a better team. We work to flop commits all the time regardless of them being from HS or the Portal.

Of course I was making a huge assumption that nobody hacked his twitter account and then resposted on3sport's false announcement he was entering the portal. Just seemed like a stretch to me.

No one said Height has signed anything. He committed to TT, but he's still a GT student, so there's nothing to keep him from staying. Once he attends his first day of classes at TT, he's then transferred.

Rutherford never went into the Portal. Height went into the Portal, so for him to come back, Key has to agree. Rutherford never left the team. All the talk was he was going to go into the Portal, not that he did.
