I doubt Cpj would resort to this because he and coach Ken are such good friends, But where else would he look if he plans to make changes to his staff ?
Well, given that any coach on the offensive side of the line would (1) need experience coaching within an option-based spread at least generally akin to CPJ's scheme, (2) CPJ might not want to "raid" assistants currently on staff of guys from the CPJ coaching tree, and (3) Tech probably still has budget considerations constraining such moves, one place to look might be -- I kid you not --
The Citadel.
The Citadel ? Here's why. Two years ago, The Citadel plucked a fella named Mike Houston as the new HC, Houston coming off three solid seasons at Div. 2 Lenoir-Rhyne, piling up rushing yardage and points, falling in the 2013 title game. Houston uses a Tech/Navy-type offense, he has guys on staff he brought along from Lenoir-Rhyne to The Citadel, The Citadel showed improvement in 2014 (despite a young o-line) in Houston's first season, and this season The Citadel is currently 7-2 (losses to Georgia Southern and FCS power Charleston Southern), rolling up yardage, and ranked in the FCS at #21. The Citadel has precious little which is above average in its football history, so -- Houston and his staff seem to be doing something right. I note that Citadel o-line coach Ron Boyd was with Houston at Lenoir-Rhyne and now is with him in Charleston. Ditto for OC/QB/B-backs coach Brent Thompson.
Just a notion offered in reply to a question, not offered as some sort of panacea.
