Personally I've been torn on what to think about Woody as DC. On the one hand I do think the D-line play has improved significantly. I also really liked that we caused way more fumbles. Supposedly not much defense was installed, and he hasn't had a chance to recruit to it. And he typically made good halftime adjustments, and we didn't wilt at end of half end of game situations. But. Good heavens, if your QB can throw an out route longer than 10 yards, 3rd and long is right where you want our defense. I wanted to puke after the 100th time I watched a receiver catch the ball uncontested at the sideline on 3rd and 12 or more, and then it just kept happening all year! That's just bad coaching, cause usually the receiver would catch the ball and there's no GT defender on the screen. It's one thing if the WR is catching a perfect throw over the DBs outstretched hand. I can write that off as talent, or being a step slow cause you're thinking about your assignment instead of just playing. Some things with that: we blitzed more, I guess. But we still like to just run straight into any available blocker. We'd send 6 guys and everyone would get picked up, QB has eternity to throw. This just makes me tired thinking about it. I never saw anyone besides ASA get off blocks with any consistency. When we occasionally would have a man free (often a particular senior inside line backer . . . ) the guy would just whiff! I've never seen anyone whiff so consistently. Overall inside LB play was pretty sad, they all had a bad tendency to drift outside and seal themselves right out of the play. My impression: meh. With PJ stepping down, wouldn't hurt my feelings if we just went ahead and cleaned house. Derrick Moore should stay no matter what, but nobody else has impressed me.
