Nice trick there, skipping 2016 (a 9-4 season, with a win over (u)GA, and as many wins over SEC east teams as the dwags had that year)—when in fact it was the 2018 season that never really happened. (Fall 2018 was entirely a fentanyl hallucination while I was in a medically-induced coma...;)) On a more serious note: Johnson's final seasons were handicapped by the fact that we didn't have a dual threat QB. With all respect to Taquon Marshall for the seasons he led as our QB, he wasn't PJ's first choice—that would have been Jaylend Ratliffe, who was medically DQed after a pre-signing ATV accident. (We honored his commitment with a medical scholarship, you'll recall.) If we'd had JR running plays, I think the last two seasons would have played out very differently. The common wisdom at the end of Johnson's tenure was to say, "See? Everyone has figured out the blueprint for beating his offense." Well, yeah...if the blueprint is to wait until a season when our QB provides no deep passing threat, and then you simply stack the box to stuff the option. Had teams tried that strategy with JR under center, I think they would they would have gotten burned on the deep routes, and would have been forced to re-think their "blueprint".
