I don't watch the pros very much (or any sport non GT) but I remember about 4-5 years ago in a playoff game where the Steelers had it at first and goal at the 3 or so. They did the whole I formation hand the ball to the fullback at the 8 yard line and everyone on the field stacks up at the goalline and he runs into that big pile of bodies. So on 2nd and 2 I was thinking "great get to watch that same stupid 20 car pile-up at the goal line 2 more times and then they will settle for a FG" while thinking how awesome it is to have CPJ's offense which can try about 15 different ways to score from a first and goal at the three and in which you are genuinely shocked if they do not convert a TD and have to settle for a FG. But then . . . all of a sudden Roethlisberger takes the snap and runs a double option to the left side and his RB goes ahead and cuts in front and blocks for him and he walks into the endzone past the pylon untouched. My jaw dropped. The lack of option concepts and packages simply mystifies me. But then these bowls seem to be showing that as I said at the outset maybe the option needs to be left for the brainier sort of teams like we have here at Tech. :)
