Brent Key closes out the early signing day by signing four offensive linemen. One of the first people to sign was guard Kevin Peay. The 3-star (4-star per Rivals) from Lancaster, SC, standing at 6'4" and 285 lbs, is no slouch. The number 1 offensive lineman in the state of South Carolina has proved that he is a certified people mover. Known for his explosive power and relentless drive, Peay has dominated on the field, quickly earning a reputation as a mauler in both run blocking and pass protection. Now, as part of Georgia Tech's future, he’s ready to bring that same intensity to The Flats.

A prospect heavily pursued by Coaches Bent Key and Geeb Wade since January. Peay says it was the Coaches’ relationship with both him and his family that set Tech apart from other programs.
“Well, I would say just me building a relationship with coach and him, building that relationship with my parents and those things. No other coach really built a relationship with my parents, but he made sure he did that first off and made sure my family was taken care of and definitely made sure I was taken care of, also. So that played a big part in my recruitment.”

Something that was put to the test when his home state team, the University of South Carolina, came calling. Adding to the list of Tech recruits, the Gamecocks made a heavy push to flip late in the recruiting period. A respectfully hard decision for Kevin, who grew up a fan of the Gamecocks. However, despite the strong pull of his home-state team, South Carolina's recruitment process left a bad taste in Kevin's mouth. The last-minute push felt rushed and insincere, and the Gamecocks' handling of the situation made Kevin doubt their true commitment to him. As a result, the allure of playing for his childhood team started to fade, and he ultimately decided to stick with his original commitment. Officially shutting down his recruitment on November 18th after a visit to Columbia, SC.

As he prepares to make the transition to college football, Kevin Peay is poised to make an immediate impact on Georgia Tech's offensive line. While fitting the size mold of a Division 1 guard, Kevin possesses immense athleticism and physicality that follows the precedence set by Tech linemen this past season. It seemed every other snap, the guy he was blocking was getting planted in the ground or 10 yards away from the ball. Kevin, in most of these games, asserts himself as the best player on the field.

Kevin Peay Senior Year Highlights

Coming into next season, Kevin is treating this new adventure as a learning experience, showing the kind of maturity that'll serve him well in college football. Georgia Tech's offensive line is stacked with veteran players, which means Kevin's got an incredible opportunity to learn from guys who've already been through the grind. Keylan Rutledge, who Kevin specifically mentioned, will be a key leader helping him navigate this transition.

Kevin comes into this early signing day class with four other offensive linemen, 23 total signed. Kevin, who was very vocal on social media about getting players to Tech, says, "I wanted to play with the best guys, be with the best guys. I know that's going push me to be better, and just getting those guys to help me and them get better". I, like many other Tech fans, have recognized the difference in the air this recruiting season. Bent Key and company continue to prove that they can play and recruit with the best programs in the state and country. With key additions like Peay, Georgia Tech is positioning itself for future competitive depth.
Kevin Peay Senior Year Highlights
When asked about what fans should expect from him, Kevin said, “They are definitely getting an impact player, A player that's going to play and work hard. They are getting a player that is going to want to win here. A player that is looking to make himself and everyone around him better.” Strong words from Kevin and ones I hope to see him deliver when he steps foot on campus next semester.

I would also like to add that Kevin is a man of great taste. We had to end our original call because Kevin took the interview while at Applebee's - a move I both understand and respect. We promptly rescheduled for later that night. When I asked about his order, he shared what I consider a top-tier menu item: the quesadilla burger. An impact player meal, if you ask me. This is exactly what I need on a decision-making level.

Hard to believe that Clemson would let the number one offensive lineman in South Carolina get away from them. But that just means this young man can think for himself and knows what is best for him.
