JMU hires Citadel Coach

after only 2 years and a a trip to the 2nd round of this years football playoffs Mike Houston the new coach of JMU. Houston which runs the spread option identical to GT's also beat South Carolina this year and had 2 players in that game run for over 100 yrds

I gather then that JMU which ran from the shotgun with Lee now will scrap it? Anybody know if Lee drew any pro interest l last season? (He is out of eligibility, right?)

Citadel fans are disappointed, but many hope that OC/QB&B-backs coach Brent Thompson (who was with Mike Houston at Lenoir-Rhyne since 2010, and then followed Houston to The Citadel in 2013) will get the now-open HC position. Thompson has been implementing Mike Houston's Tech-like attack these past few years; here's hoping he gets the HC gig.

This season, The Citadel even ran some "T-bone" -- triple option from the old T formation, but with two WRs instead of TEs -- successfully.

That sounds like the old "belly series" coach Dodd used to run in the 50s

Just as Navy stayed with a CPJ disciple, and his offense, when PJ came to Tech -- it looks like The Citadel will promote OC Brent Thompson to become the new HC in light of Mike Houston leaving for JMU.

Listening to a Citadel athletics podcast, it's interesting to hear that Thompson is the "option guru" -- not departing coach Houston (so don't necessarily expect an under-center, option-based spread at JMU). Didn't know that; apparently Thompson provided the "offensive brains" for Mike Houston's success at Lenoir-Rhyne and The Citadel.
