It doesn't seem that long ago we were focused maybe going to the B1G.

Polish this turd- the mighty state schools of the B1G haven't sniffed the NCAA title in 12 years (2002) and the last time before that was 17 years (1997). The year-in, year-out bell cow of that conference, tOSU, got embarrassed on National TV by the WORST Virginia Tech team in a decade, and dropped last years bowl game to the ACC's underachieving version of UGAg, Clemson. The best they have to offer this year, Michigan St., got handled by Oregon, a team that perennially wets the bed when it goes against equally ranked opponents outside of the Pac12. Offer me Wake, Virginia, UNC, NC State, BC, Syracuse? Here's back at ya with Minnesota, Indiana, Northwestern, Illinois, Purdue, and the mediocre Maryland team that most assuredly was NOT showing signs of getting better before they left the ACC. Oh, and Rutgers, the leftover from the BigLeast the ACC didn't want. Talk about the academics of the B1G being more in line with Tech? How are the big state schools in the B1G any different from UNC or UVA? Great academic reputations, but when it comes to athletes, they let anybody in school just to win. Miami and UNC got NOTHING on tOSU and Penn St for dirt and scandal. tOSU is just like F$U- they could care less what kind of thugs take the field as long as they win. Northwestern is the only school in that conference that screens their student-athletes like Tech. B1G will always have the perception from the media as being better than the ACC because of all the big stadiums full of alumni from enormous UGA-like state universities, and the ACC will always struggle with its 'little brother' perception when sharing a region with the mighty SEC. But a team located in Atlanta, Georgia has no d*** business in the B1G playing teams 1000 miles away, and that's the reality. If the transplants want to see Michigan and Penn St., go back home. The B1G is a dying conference just like its Rust Belt environs.

Wow so much nonsense. Lest start with travel distance - Minneapolis (the furthest school) is closer to Atlanta than Boston. As for the B10 being a dying conference......average attendance (2013) for B10 games, 70,431, ACC -49,982. AS for the Academic comparison.....it was about B10-Sec and how it compares to Tech......do try to keep your fantasies straight. As for scandals.....The PSU one is blowing up in the NCAA face....and was not a scandal about football in the first place. But we can cherry pick scandals to discuss if you want. As for the NC.....yes the SEC has had their string.......of course the preseason bias has nothing to do with it right? Have you ever stopped to think why the B10 plays in far more bowl games around New Years than the ACC......not because it is a dying conference like in your fantasies. As for OSU losing to VT, yes they did, minus their starting. Now how about that stellar UNC team picked to win the coastal getting crushed be ECU, Clemp getting handled by UGA,

The turd you need to polish is your own misguided notions.

Every team in the B1G is a long haul to travel to. Half the teams in the ACC are. Advantage ACC. FSU, Clemson, UNC, NC state, Wake, away are a lot better than B1G counterparts would be.

I agree. We are on the edge of the core of the ACC and would have been on the fringe in the B10....not a big issue for football, but the lesser sports would have suffered. Baseball would have had virtually all home games for the first half of the season ;)

Debating the issue is one thing......throwing out silly claims like "not traveling 1000 miles" when that is exactly what happens going to BC, is another.

The ACC is a crap conference. There is just no way to polish that turd. The B1G would have been huge for Tech football. It would have forced Tech to up its game. But there's no point in pining for lost opportunities now. There was a brief window when the ACC was on shaky ground, and one small jolt could have sent it all tumbling. But Tech foolishly stood by and allowed the ACC to set huge financial penalties for leaving. It's not going to happen in the near future.

... ever watch Myth Busters? (granted they didn't polish this specific turd...)

All you guys talking about Minnesota and the like realize wed probably be in the B1G East with Penn State, MD, Rutgers, OHio State, mich, mich state and Indiana right? We would play the others on the road likely only once a year.

These schools are not much further than UVA, VPI, Miami and Pitt. Clemson, Duke and UNC being close is very helpful though.

The turth is the travel for non football sports would be brutal.

Have always said that about the travel.......non revenue sports would be really brutal. The comment from another post about the B10 dying was comical....the ACC came far closer to death in the last two years than the B10 ever would. There would have been some great advantages playing in the B10......probably more competitive in BB, football would have been a big boost (home game ticket sales would have jumped) but travel would be a pain...as well as locals traveling to away games. I still maintain that the B10 would be a far better fit academically for Tech than the SEC ever would.

Pretty much agree with everything you just said Animal. I'd still rather be in the dirty SEC. That conference is really in need of some class. :)
