I have a crazy idea that probably won’t ever happen but let’s think about this…

What if someone filed antitrust against the sec alleging that it’s a monopoly, and forced them to be broken up into smaller conferences

Like how telephone companies (the Bell system) were broken up in the 1980’s?

The SEC has just become too big and too powerful imo. Not only at football but at BASKETBALL (it’s terrible this year how good they are)

If they were to be broken up into two or three smaller conferences it would be SO much better for college athletics.

and yes you could argue it for the B1G but I don’t feel they’re as big and imposing as the sec.

What do they have a monopoly on would be the question? The transfer portal has forever changed the landscape of college sports. Now coaches must actually do their job and formulate relationships with the athletes they are recruiting. If the coach can't build a relationship, the player votes with his feet and bounces to the next program.
