I mean it is just a fascinating book. So many stories I never knew about and really makes me appreciate Kim King even more than I already did. Also has a lot of great Dodd stories.

As a rat, i viewed King and Bill Eastman as my Idols. The book is great. King loved Gt football.
Sent a copy to Haynes' dad, just to help him enjoy being at Gt. As a legendary texas high school coach, he is not a big "sit in the prez box guy".

I am sure you will enjoy the book. I have always given Kim a lot of credit for saving our football program during the 1974 to 1980 period. By1979-80 there was talk of discontinuing Football at Tech.

He was also a great person. I recall going to the "Robbery" for a cup of coffee one morning. All the tables were taken. Kim saw my roommate and I searching for a table, and he immediately asked us to join him. I don't recall the conversation, but I am sure it was about football. This was approximately 1964-1965.

See one page below that you have likely read. This tells about a significant GT club meeting organized by Kim and others which eventually helped force President Pettit to approve the fund raiser for the Edge center.

I was a lowly 17-year-old HS graduate in summer 1974 and was working a construction job that had contracted with KK for some work on his own home. When I found out whose home it was, my superintendent and I were talking about him and he mentioned to Kim's wife, Gail, that I was a fan of KK. She must have told him because he came out into the back yard as I was cleaning up at the end of one day to introduce himself and he had a football with him. We tossed the ball for a few minutes and talked. I was blown away that he would do that for me. What a great guy!

I was there the day he made his last ride around BDS and admit that I had some wet stuff running out of my eyes. RIP, Kim! Thanks for enriching this kid's life once upon a time.

Threads like this are why I enjoy the Swarm so much! My father was a great man, but also a great mystery to me in some ways. He spoke often, when I was young, about the friendship he had with Kim King back then. The story of the 50 Crystals a piece was my personal favorite! Recruited heavily by the big boys, he said his choice came down to Tech and tennessee. They took him up to neyland, showed him the city, and had dinner at the best steakhouse in town. Then Coach Dodd came to his little house in Atlanta, where his mother worked 2-3 jobs to barely support those 6 boys, and sat down with them for dinner.... It was an easy choice, but when Dodd left the next year and Carson came in it was the beginning of the end for my Dad. Dodd was his father figure and after setting most of the freshman team rushing records he was gone before the next season and into the Marietta PD. Dad died in 04, and is buried right next to Bobby Dodd. Thank you for putting me on to Mr. King's book. I wouldn't have known otherwise, or even tried to make those connections having been so long. Cannot wait to read it!

I read that. That and the White House Meeting w/ Carter was fascinating.
