Looking at the present and future of our basketball team, it's clearly obvious that we will be looking for a new coach after the season. Recruiting is at a all time low, and I don't see of the top players willing to come here. Oh,did I mention the the present team is patheticly weak.So without further ado our next basketball coach is Billy donlon.

I'll bite--who?

This can't be a serious thread. Or maybe Donlon's agent has taken to message boards to drum up interest for his client. Yeah, that's what I'm going with.

I mean I actually looked at Wright State's recent history and they appear to be on a downward trajectory. Doesn't seem to add up to a guy any P5 is clamoring for. I mean, you do the math on that.

That actually means the probability of GT hiring him is increasing.

Is he friends with Eddie Fogler? Is he a nice guy? Is he the only other guy in the country apart from our current coach who graduates players?

I think people are being highly illogical in their thoughts of who the AD has in mind when a change is made.

He wanted to clear off $6M in buyouts before hiring a new coach (he failed, but that was his plan). You don't do that if you are simply looking for an inexpensive option. An inexpensive option would not require you to clean up your previous commitments like that. That is an action you take when you want to have a free hand and a relatively deep wallet to use.
I think he had candidates in mind, but I think they were candidates that were likely going to be in the $2M/yr +- 10% range. Who they are I don't know, but my sense was it wasn't going to be guys that would come cheap.

also, given the AD's past, I don't think the use of Eddie Fogler, or any search firm, is likely.
They will want someone they are comfortable will make sure the young men do the work in the classroom. They do not want a repeat of the late Hewitt period where multiple scholarships were lost and a potential post season ban was not far off. Only East Carolina has lost more scholarships in the APR era than GT.

Obviously I have gotten to some of you with this article. What is tech looking for? Donlon can coach, so what is the problem? As far as money, money does talk right? Who's available? ,And at what price?Donlon is young,37,he just can't get talent at a school surrounded by Ohio state and Dayton to name a few. We can't afford to over pay for a name anymore, hell we don't have the money anyway!

I find it odd that you have two posts on this site and they both involve hiring a mediocre basketball coach...
