National championship controversies have a long legacy in college football.

Back in the days of split national championships, Georgia Tech had entered the 1990 season unranked and absent of any serious expectations. Clemson and Virginia were widely seen as the top teams in the ACC.

If this team does not win another game, they will have won the respect and admiration of yellow jacket fans for their courage, determination, and never say die spirit. Thank you gentlemen for an unforgetable season.

"This is true. There were little if any, serious expectations about that team. However, in retrospect the pieces were there. Outstanding defense with all stars if not all Americans at all three levels. Speed on the out side with Marlon Williams and a pair of fine cornerbacks with Curly Day and Willie "Big Play" "Clay to say nothing of All "Americans Ken Swilling and the outside linebacker whose name escapes me (made a ton of plays) Now I remember, Marco Coleman big for a linebacker with excellent closing speed. What caught most people by surprise, including me, was how well our offensive line played and the stellar performance of Shawn Jones and his receivers. Excellent balance with the ability to hit the big play and chew up the clock as well. Just a really good team. Some may argue the point but there was no doubt in my mind watching them play Nebraska in the Citrus Bowl that the Jackets were the best team in the country.
