Playing them in prime time is a guaranteed way to get millions of eyes on the game that otherwise wouldn’t care at all about this game. Might it backfire if Tech comes out and lays an egg? Sure. But you have to take risks to get any reward. You have to risk pissing a few thousand folks off in order to get a few hundred thousand interested in your program.
