Perhaps we rely on his ability to scramble, throw it awsy, run, or hit a secondary receiver.

The key will be King making a few passes to open up run game.
The hardest thing for young players is the adjustment to the talent and speed of the opponents at the college level. Philo has a ton of talent, but he will have to adjust. That said, he is a really good young QB.

Between the two of them, King and Philo have the skills to be a significant threat - and King has those skills alone if he is not injured. If the coaching staff can find the right mix of plays for each of them, then we are dangerous. This team has proven they can win. Friday is the next test.

Philo’s runs were enabled by defenders chasing receivers. He had a lot of green space.
I’m glad he ran, but it will be harder to do that Friday.
There was a couple times earlier in the game I felt he should have taken off. He seemed to prioritize the pass at all costs. Of course, keep your eyes down field but when you got green grass, tuck it and run. I remember a 2nd and 8, Philo was rolling out and had an easy 5 if not more but chose a dumb pass for incompletion. 3rd and 3 is a lot different than 3rd and 8. Those little decisions make a big difference over time

It will be interesting how much Philo improves over the NC-State game.
He might get worse. NC State did a fine job shutting down our run game but just could not close the deal on that last drive. It is telling that the Wolfpack abandoned the defense that had worked so well for them most of the game and went into that passive 3 man pressure with 8 defenders in the back which Philo ripped to shreds finding holes to run through. Then, Tech's defense says "hold my beer" and does the same thing allowing the Pack to get in position for a winning field goal. I just don't understand coaches sometimes.

Previous defenses seemed designed to prevent wins. I'm sure there are statistics which support them but the failures are what we remember. The end of many games is volatile.

I detest that approach to D.

FWIW, I don't expect King to be any different against UGA than against the last opponents. I doubt we see him pass much until next fall.
This. It has been reported several times that King cannot throw downfield and this will not be fixed without a lengthy rest period or surgery. Personally speaking I think he will select the surgery option if it is offered because it would seem to be the most dependable option to allow him to play at full strength all next season.

None of us know the nature of his shoulder injury, or indeed, if it's an injury at all. He commented once that it ws the same problem he had at A&M, so I would be surprised to learn that surgery, by itself, will be the solution.

I am sure that the pros can make them work but college players is another matter. I can remember the few times I have seen Tech or other teams employ the "prevent defense" and it actually worked and being astonished at the sight.

I watched a game in the 2000s with a buddy that graduated from Florida and became a podiatrist. We were watching Tech play #3 (?) ranked Miami in a game that Miami was heavily favored as they were undefeated. Anyway, this was when Tenuta was in all his glory with zone blitzes, fire blitzes, red dog blitzes, corner blitzes, safety blitzes and Christ alone knows what else he did. Tech blitzed, blitzed, and blitzed some more and the Miami quarterback who was a freshman was sacked nine time. It was something else. Near the end of the game with Tech seemingly having the game in hand , my buddy said now Tech will go in the prevent defense and Miami will mount a comeback. I told him Tenuta will keep blitzing and sure enough that is what he did . My friend was thunderstruck never seen such a thing before. A little hyperbole but you get the idea.
