To be fair, he was matched up on Sammy Watkins most of that game. Lots of guys looked pretty bad against him, but like you said he was right there on him all game. And that's the thing I love most about DJ is his progress. I remember the game he had against Clemson a couple of years back when Taj Boyd and company torched him for multiple big plays. But as I watched I saw that he consistently had good coverage and was just beat by perfect throws. The fact that he bounced back and continued to grow let me know then that DJ has a legit NFL future.
Lots of great plays last year. One of my faves is definitely him picking up and absolutely planting that mutt.
Not only that, but on one of the deep td Sammy pushed off pretty bad. I think it didn't get called though because dj recovered so well and was still right there on him.To be fair, he was matched up on Sammy Watkins most of that game. It is amazing to to see how far back he was and him racing past everyone to get there in time to make the play. Almost like God gave him super natural speed to make that play. That is one of those plays that will be etched in your memory bank forever. The run down against Pittsburgh that caused the touch back was one of the best "want to" plays of the season. Gotta love him.
One of my good friends went to school with him. He said he was very smart, and always spoke well, very proper. The guy gives a good interview too. No BS, well-spoken, and gives logically formed responses that are insightful. Really comes across as a Tech Man.
NO QUIT in DJ either. He's really growing into an all time fave for me.
I think it didn't get called because it was Sammy Watkins. The super star versus the rookie syndrome. Not only that, but on one of the deep td Sammy pushed off pretty bad. I think it didn't get called though because dj recovered so well and was still right there on him.
Good in Man & Zone
Great speed
Good size 5'10-5'11ish
Competes on every play
Sound like a 1st rd grade to me. I know VT's Kendall Fuller and Brandon Facyson will get the hype but I don't think they are the all around CB White is.
The '13 Clemson game is what sold me on DJ. The results didn't reflect his how well of coverage he on Sammy. My biggest question going into 2014 was his ball skills and that is the biggest improvement I saw from him. Now time to turn some more of those PBUs to INT and lockdown that 1st team All-ACCC
