Does anyone know if CPJ was the original guy to do the flex formation, putting the option and run-n-shoot together? Stylee??
Yes, he was, though CPJ never called it the flex or flexbone. That terminology comes from Air Force, which saw Georgia Southern play with CPJ as OC in the mid-eighties and used some of his concepts to update their wishbone attack.

The year before PJ was named OC at GSU, they ran a run-and-shoot attack installed by a group of coaches from Houston. When that group left, Erk Russell told PJ he wanted to get back to running the ball, but PJ had a roster built for run-and-shoot, so he developed a system that would let a team run the ball with R&S personnel. Necessity is the mother of invention...

BTW, I cribbed the above from a talk CPJ delivered about the history of the offense. Probably I have some of the details wrong.
