Just a few footnotes about the young college baseball season......our next opponent (Georgia Southern) is 2-0 after winning their first two games against Bethune-Cookman. The two teams play again Sunday (weather permitting). Liberty bounced back from their opening loss to Kennesaw State to sweep Georgia State, leaving the Panthers at 1-2 (Ga State had defeated Fordham Friday). Kennesaw meanwhile split with St. John's on Saturday, to finish the challenge at 2-1 like GT did.

Fair amount of upsets early in the college season also, as Top 20 teams lost as follows:
#1 Vandy lost at Santa Clara 7-6 (then had to struggle to win game 2 in 10 innings, 6-5)
#18 Ole Miss lost the opener of their double header to William & Mary, 8-1 before bouncing back to clobber the Indians 16-2
#19 Cal State-Fullerton, a perenial baseball power, has now lost 2-1 to South Florida and 3-2 to Alabama State to open their season
#25 Tennessee lost to Florida INternational 4-3 on Friday
unranked Auburn lost to Binghampton 11-5 yesterday.

By the way, can anyone really predict or understand baseball? Wake Forest goes out yesterday and loses a 16-12 slugfest against Bucknell, then turns around later the same day and wins 1-0 against Virginia Commonwealth. Huh?

Understand baseball outcomes? They are random. Somewhere I saw that when a high ranked CFB team played a low one, the outcome could be predicted 85% of the time. For college basketball, 75%. For baseball, 65%.

But looking around the rest of the ACC, there is real power out there - UVa, Miami, UNC, FSU and others in the ACC who haven't faltered yet. This is a good conference. http://www.theacc.com/standings/#/m-basebl/2014
