If anyone is a subscriber, there's a great article on Coach Stoudamire in the Athletic.

For non-subscribers, the article talks about creating a culture of accountability in the program. Also, how he left Pacific because he felt he had maxed out that program, but feels the sky is the limit at Tech because of Atlanta and how wide open the ACC is now.

Here's a quote.

“Will somebody please yell, ‘I got f—-ing ball?’”

For a good 40 minutes, Stoudamire’s voice, which usually hovers somewhere between a rasp and a croak, doesn’t rise above conversation level. The morning hug routine spills over into practice, as Stoudamire preaches positivity. High energy, hard claps, boundless encouragement. Until, on a routine three-on-three drill, the Jackets transition on defense in near silence. One group does it, and Stoudamire kindly suggests that someone say they’ve got the lead dribbler. The next group repeats the mistake, and Stoudamire finally yells in exasperation.

It’s a trivial error. It’s not like no one picked up the guy with the ball; they just didn’t communicate the decision to their teammates. “Oh, man, that is him. Attention to detail, that’s what he’s all about,” says junior guard Miles Kelly. “He’s purposefully nitpicking so we get everything down to a T, so in the game it becomes second nature.”

We will likely see some inconsistencies with this new group trying to learn each other. This could be a really good team by tournament time. I really liked what I saw in the duke game.

Coach of the Week: Damon Stoudamire, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech athletic director J Batt went outside the box when he replaced Josh Pastner in the spring, hiring Stoudamire away from the Boston Celtics' staff. A slow start was expected, but a home loss to UMass Lowell in the third game was not. It didn't take long for Stoudamire to turn things around, however. Georgia Tech handed Mississippi State its first loss of the season on Tuesday then welcomed Duke to town on Saturday and beat the Blue Devils 72-68 in Stoudamire's first ACC game at the helm.

Stoudamire's rotation adjustments since losses to the River Hawks and Cincinnati eight days earlier have completely changed the trajectory of this team. Amaree Abram, who started the first four games of the season, hasn't played in the past two. Tyzhaun Claude moved to the bench (and played a key role against Duke). And into the starting lineup went NC State transfer Ebenezer Dowuona and freshman Naithan George, with the latter dishing out nine assists against the Blue Devils.
