Overton is catching hell over this decision. Something tells me that he must have had some donors in his ear...if not, Overton will likely be shown the door soon too.
We have learned at Tech that you must have the President, the AD , and influential alumni all on board to support sports programs at a school. If that’s not the case, it’s near impossible to succeed, especially at the FCS level.

With my very limited knowledge of KSU I don't see how he doesn't get removed, even if donors were in his ear. Low coaches pay. Minimum number of coaches. Facilities that are worse than some high schools in Georgia. The respect that high school coaches have for Bohannon and his dad. The AD was apparently trying to make it look like the dismissal wasn't his responsibility. Now he is trying to make it look like the misinformation is not his responsibility.

How many high school coaches in Georgia are going to support recruiting from KSU, given all of the apparent issues? KSU was already behind the 8 ball because of funding. Now there appear to be very significant administration issues there. IMHO if Overton isn't fired very soon, KSU football is likely to be bad for at least a decade, if the program even survives.

I think the real issue is KSU's aspirations versus the money it takes to achieve those aspirations. KSU, as a school, has exploded in terms of student population, expansion of programs, and funding. They took over/merged with Southern Tech (Southern Polytechnic), and I believe they are now the 3rd largest school in GA in terms of undergraduate enrollment....just behind UGA (GA State is #1).

KSU as a sports program wanted to match KSU as a school. The problem is they didn't have the money lined up to make the jump to this level of sports programs. It just won't be a football problem, it's going to be problem with their athletic department as a whole. I've driven by their facilities over there in West Cobb, and there are High Schools with better facilities. That's going to be a problem in recruiting and day to day operations.

KSU is going to need to invest a LOT of money to get where they want to be on this level. IMO, it's going to take at least a decade for them to be competitive...and that's if they start campaigning for funds now. The current leadership looks like they are lost, so it may be a LONG LONG time before KSU gets it going on this level.

Yeah this is going to be a mess for their program. Not a good look and coaches have some hivemind around this kind of thing.

I happened to be listening to the college fall show on XM yesterday and they referenced Wes Durham in discussing KSU. Said he told them at the time that KSU was going to a higher division but weren't providing the resources to do so. Suggested they were in over their heads. This move basically proves that out. As ypu said, and they alluded to yesterday, he coaching community will not take to kindly to this.

Maybe KSU will hire Van Gorder for peak laughablility. Or Mike Bobo gettign a HC shot again because im sure kirby is going to have to fire his *** and "leaving for another job" allows him to save face. I can't imagine you do this if you don't have an inside line on someone your donors want.

Especially given the DEEP family and staff connections he has in state. Dude built their program, then got kneecapped by the admin.

It honestly reminds me of the mismanagement of Kleinlein at georgia southern. Wanted Monken gone from the moment he took over because he hated the "option" and didn't think they could compete with teh big boys with it. When monken beats florida then gets hired away by army he goes out and gets fritz. Fritz being a smart coach looked at the players he had and said you know what ima run more option and they have 2 great years post transition. Then he doesn't pay the man and he goes to tulane buidls them instead. AFter fritz they hire... tyson ****ing summers which was basically the beta version of collins. Valdosta state guy who was a near first time head coach suppose to be a recruiter bleed blue and white grey up going to southern games... he proceedes to **** around with 3 win seasons. kleinlein gets fired in season 2 then he gets fired. its just crazy how the same mistakes get made over and over again. SUmmers is even funnier because he brought in Brian Cook from tech to run an offense. Only to nto let him actually install the pistol flex that cook ran.

KSU runs the option. NEarly wins an FCS championship. Then gets told they are transitioning, bohannon tries to update the offense (leading to a really down year due to injuries) then he sits half his team in preperation to play FBS level football. They change their offense even further to a standard pistol spread. Fail miserably because they really don't have the talent and then they blame him?
