Blitzing the "back side" or direction of the counter option

I noticed that both Vad and JT were blitzed on the counter option. The blitz came on the side the counter option is going, but the QB has his back to the blitz side as he fakes the hand off to the BB. How in the heck did both JT and Vad turn and pitch like they knew the blitz was coming. Props to both of them for either reading the blitz and knowing they have to turn and pitch or thinking so quickly to make the pitch.

In the BYU game, BYU blitzed and took Vad out right after he turned on the counter. Our QBs are getting better.

the commentators talked about it somewhat. they said it became an instinctive pitch. it could also have to do with pre-snap reads
