I was sorry to hear that Walton had died so (relatively) early on. I wish he had not had so many injuries. When he was young he was one of the best centers I've ever seen. Why, you ask? Look at this and tell me how you get a shot over him when he's 6'11" and can jump a full yard above the court? And that's just on D. He was a demon on O as well.

Coach Wooden said he was the best player he ever coached at UCLA. That’s a mouthful.

I hated UCLA for the same reasons I used to hate Alabama in football and the Yankees in baseball. They were just too dominant for too long. But I loved watching Walton. An absolute vacuum cleaner under the basket.

I think when he was healthy he only lost something like four games. He had the middle so tied up in basketball his guards could play aggressive man to man at the wings and top of the key.
