Or Bobby Ross.
His record was only 103-101 (and 2 ties). That is not worthy of getting into the Hall of Fame. Obviously grateful for the 1990 season but this is a lifetime achievement award.
103–101–2

Robert Joseph Ross (born December 23, 1936) is an American former football coach. He served as the head football coach at The Citadel (1973–1977), the University of Maryland, College Park (1982–1986), Georgia Tech (1987–1991), and the United States Military Academy (2004–2006), compiling a career college football coaching record of 103–101–2.

Maybe CFHoF member HC Paul Johnson can lean on J Batt to get Erk Russell in the CFHoF where he rightly belongs.
Unfortunately he doesn't meet the minimum requirements. Tremendous record but not in head coaching long enough. He coached for 8 years. Sucks!
He’s in both the Georgia and Alabama sports halls of fame. However, Russell doesn’t meet the college football hall’s criteria for head coaches. The NFF’s bylaws state that an individual must have been a head coach for a minimum of 10 years and 100 games and won at least 60 percent of their games.

Too bad about Erk. He was in the enemy camp before going to Southern where he did a tremendous coaching job. I have become a fan of what he did at GSU.

He would have had it if UGA hadn't dicked him. He was suppose to take over for dooley in 81. but because they won a NC behind walker in 1980 dooley didn't retire. So erk left to start southern's program.

All this is well known and accurate.

But Roberto Clemente wasn't out of baseball for 5 years prior to his election to the BBHoF. Exceptions can always be made. Roberto was a sure fire HoFer and so is Erk. Took a program that had to run to K-Mart to get a football on the day of his introductory press conference to winning 3 REAL, EARNED National Championships in only 8 years is beyond amazing. Just because he didn't reach some arbitrary number, he shouldn't be denied that honor.
83-22-1 (.788 winning %)
16-2 Record in Playoffs
3 National Titles (And lost another title game by 5 points)
Multiple Coach of the Year Awards

But yeah Mark Dantonio certainly belongs (y) only because he coached for an arbitrary number of years.

Yeah but he didn't coach 10 years, he only coached 8 years...That makes it only more remarkable. And if anyone else comes close to that standard, but coached 1 year or 9, they deserve to be inducted as well.....But that person doesn't exist.

Yes, this is a hill worth dying on for me. I went when the CFHoF opened in ATL and was shocked to learn he wasn't in there, an assumption by many more I'm sure. I have refused many invites to go back due to this reason. Does it matter to them? Probably not, but it does to me. I grew up watching Ga Southern football and was there this year for their miraculous comeback against Marshall, just a few hours after our win UNCheat. Was in the stands the day after his passing. Erk deserves this honor and hopefully with a Georgian in the top slot, it's an honor that will be bestowed.

Hell, Erk should get is just on his DC credentials. Just an outstanding football coach all the way around.

Currently 32 coaches in the CFHoF have winning percentage less than 60%, even one with a losing record. (yes our William Alexander is in that list)
Currently 4 coaches in the CFHoF coached for less than 10 years, even one that coached 2 years.
Currently 9 Coaches in the CFHoF coached less than 100 games, even one that coached 20 games.

The coaches with fewer than 100 games coached were all inducted before 1972, that said a large number of the <0.600 win percentage coaches were indicted well past that.

The coach with only 20 games is Illinois coach Edward K Hall. He is clearly there for his time as the head of the rules committee following Walter Camp and less for his coaching ability (although he was 0.600 cpach over those two years). https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_K._Hall

This is unfortunate as he is a fantastic HC. His penchant for taking difficult jobs and turning them around hurt his W/L but proves his quality as a coach. He turned UMD into a 3x ACC champ, GA Tech into an ACC champ and a national champ, and San Diego into an AFC champ and Super Bowl participant. So I suppose you’re right in your assessment, but the CFHoF would be a better place with guys like him and Erk in there, too.

he is a HOF'er imo. When you look at his .500 record, you must consider he coached at Army, Citadel, GT and Maryland. You could have a 75% winning % at some of the football factory schools and not be half the coach that CBR was. When I look at the all time best coaches (including CBR) I look at WHERE they won as how much they won. Steve Spurrier, before the Gators, took Duke to an ACC championship at a time when people thought that was impossible. FSU before Bobby Bowden was a joke, as was the Miami program before Howard Scnellenberger. In basketball, look at GT pre- and post- Coach Bobby Cremins. Great coaches succeed where average or even good coaches cannot.

Anybody watching Stanford-Louisville?

Tie game, 10 secs. Ville goes on 4th at Furd 45 and misses. 5 secs left. Furd tosses a quick out at the 50 and calls TO, but Lville commits a PF. Ball on the Ville 40 with 1 sec left… 57 yard FG. Ville jumps offside!!! Ball on 35, now 52 yards. Furd kicker hits it and Furd wins. Ha!!’

ETA: Wrong thread, sorry!

As Batt’s star rises and GT continues to improve, he is increasingly likely to be recruited away. My current prediction is that LSU will go after him and shortly after, fire Kelly. They are ready to burn him in effigy in Baton Rouge.
