I think they (FSU, Clem, UNC etc) could torpedo the process without being overly overt, and they would be within their rights to refuse to sign a lessor tv contract. If the tv contract with espn is not renewed and the members can’t (or won’t) agree on a new one then the ACC will eventually fall...
Yeah it’ll about like the bidding war for the PAC rights- the ACC will splinter apart as the good teams make deals behind the scenes to leave while throwing monkey wrenches into the ACC negotiations
Just my theory obviously but I think ESPN will prioritize getting the teams they and the SEC want to keep, and they (potentially) will make more money (ratings, subscriptions) having those teams playing an SEC schedule combined with moving or renegotiating the ACC castoffs to a lower contract...
I have a feeling that ESPN and FOX will agree under the table to divvy up the desirable ACC teams that they want added to the big 2 conferences- then the ACC/pac2/big12 leftovers will get combined into a mega-conf for espn to use to fill programing (Espn The Ocho etc) on the cheap.
I think (pray) you‘re right about Lightsey, he looks to be exactly what we need lining up beside Max Efford.
Tifase may turn out to be a better or quicker DT than what we had last season but he is nowhere near as beefy as Lockett and Biggers and they will have another season of experience...
