While I understand some of the negativity with regard to certain aspects of the pitching and base running, I find myself with more optimism than past years. I think the addition of Borrell and the pitching lab are just beginning to show what the future holds. We are getting much more talented...
I would respond to that by saying the math is flawed especially when your #9 ranked team (Central CT) has a 3-1 record with no Q1 or Q2 wins and one Q3 loss. The wins coming against Navy and Albany. And that gives them a SOS of 33? How does that make any sense.
You have it backwards. VT gave up 8 BB and 4 HBP and our pitchers gave 6 BB and 2 HBP. We weren't great in those areas but they were much worse. Also, our pitchers only gave up 8 hits while they gave up 12.
I thought the ump was squeezing him pretty hard. There were several pitches that easily could have been called strikes that went for balls. Usually an ump will allow either the high strike or the low strike. This guy wasn't giving Finateri either of them. It seemed like he had to throw it down...
One thing to consider when you use stats as a barometer comparison within the ACC is the level of competition. There are some teams in our conference that haven't played anybody yet and they have been able to pad both their pitching and hitting stats. We have played some pretty decent teams and...
In the post game presser Coach Nell said Cubaj is fine but in order to play tomorrow she needs to pass protocols. That tells me the laceration on her chin won't stop her from playing as long as she makes it through the night ok and passes concussion protocols tomorrow. I would love to see her...
It was encouraging to see each pitcher given a chance to work their way out of trouble and more encouraging to see each of them did it! That has to go a long way toward building some confidence in the pitching staff.
A definite listen for diehard GT baseball fans. Lots of tidbits from all of the student athletes with some info I've never heard before. If you don't mind continuing to share the links of future episodes that would be great.
That is what another poster is claiming on a different site. This will open up minutes for some of the incoming class which is the only positive I can take from it.
Watching the last couple of games it's great to see a lot of the younger guys getting a few innings. But I'm curious why we haven't seen any of Kristian Campbell. Is he hurt? If I'm not mistaken, he came in as a pretty highly rated shortstop.
What? Parada hitting behind Simpson makes perfect sense. Simpson gets on base a lot which will result in Parada seeing a lot more fastballs unless they want to concede second base to Simpson and even if they do that then we have our best hitter with a man in scoring position. Parada batting...
Am I the only one who cringes when Hall comes up to bat with runners in scoring position? Three times with the bases loaded and no hits today and feel like this has been the case for about three years now. I guess he's in there for his defense but why not bat him lower in the lineup.
You can definitely see that Bartnicki is in the best shape of his career at Tech. Hopefully that translates to improved consistency on the mound. If so, would that put him in line for the closer role? Or would Mannelly be the more likely candidate? Although Finateri being a big strike thrower...
Looking for a silver lining from this I think Cubaj certainly outplayed Cunane. It was obvious from the outset that she was much more of a physical force than Cunane which will hopefully increase her value in the eyes of the WNBA scouts. Had we been able to hit some of the wide open threes this...
Based on recent games I think I would rather see Harrison get some minutes if we are going to bring a big off the bench. I like Aranaz but you have to hit wide open layups. Duke is a bad matchup for Carter I think. She doesn't do well against teams that play 5 out. Not enough foot speed. I like...
Oh I wasn't disagreeing with you. I'm sure you are correct in your reasoning. I was trying to say it is a flawed criterium by the committee. There are going to be games when your shots aren't falling but a good defense will be there every night. I used K State as an example of that flawed logic...
I know what you are saying. But the fact of the matter is you spend 50% of your time playing defense. There are plenty of high scoring offenses out there that don't play a lick of defense and their records reflect that. Two of our most recent opponents, BC and UNC, both have high octane offenses...
This week there was some discussion as to why our #14 ranked women's team was left out of the ranking committee's top 16 while Kansas State was ranked ahead of us (where they promptly lost that night to Texas by 18 points). After seeing that I decided to watch their most recent game. The...
