Just guessing, but maybe they thought some of the second stringers had a lot more potential than the starters, but just wanted them to gradually gain experience or wanted them to gain weight, take more time to learn the system, etc.
Enjoyed the article. Maybe you already did this and I missed it, but it would be interesting to see the best states for recruits after correcting for population. The states with a lot for the top recruits are also pretty large states, so it isn't an accurate measure of true talent.

The way the Orange bowl situation is handled seems strange to me. Is it if the ACC champ is in the playoffs, they take whoever they think is the next best team? Seems like it should be the loser of the ACC championship game, meaning it couldn't be clemson, with FSU in the playoffs.
