Uh, don't know how to say this, but I graduated from UVA in 1969 (when, for the first time in fifty years - or maybe ever - they had a decent football team).

HOWEVER, I grew up in Atlanta as a Tech fan. My Ole Daddy (now deceased) was born n 1912, and after about 8 years old, never missed a Tech Home game (when residing here) for about 70 years. maybe more. (Fight song quoted at funeral; Tickets: section 6, 45 yard line, just below the railing).

One of his close friends was on the 1928 Rose Bowl team. My folks held a cocktail party (during activities surrounding the fiftieth anniversary of the game, as I recall) for the team (survivors). A number of the guys from Cal attended as well. So who cares? Well, my folks had a commemorative set ofGT cocktail glasses with the scores of the games from the 1928 season displayed on them: Roy "Wrong Way" Riegels stole one. (He reportedly was a pretty good guy).

Then, my grandfather was a pooh-bah in the Shrine and was instrumental in starting the GA-GT freshman day game on Thanksgiving. Before freshmen became eligible, this was a big deal. I saw Theron Sapp when on the sideline when he was a freshman. No teeth. No surprise.

What isn't so well known is that the players (both teams, but separately) visited the crippled children's hospital (Scottish Rite) before the game. When i was about ten, I attended with the Techies. The children, all of whom physically were pretty well screwed, were ecstatic to see the players. When we left, the players had tears in their eyes. So, a little perspective on the importance of football.

Anyway, I've been a Tech fan for a long time. Saw a lot of history. And, over the years, have had to endure a lot of barking. Thanks for letting me post on the site.
