I don't think that approach is in CDS's playbook. He is much more of a perimeter approach - keep the lane open - and have a mobile big roll hard to the hole off of a high screen. I can't see him doing an old school UNC double post approach.

Having a big allows match up options to suit every game situation. Not having a big the allows the opponent to exploit.
That was obvious the last two years.

James Munlyn was recruited out of S.C. as a high school recruit in 1987 with Brian Oliver and Michael Christian in one heckuva class. He left after the 1991 season. Johnny NcNeil came in in 1989 as a J.C. player and left after 1990. There was overlap.

Munlyn only played 178 minutes the entire season. McNeil was the usual starter and got the most time. He, along with malcolm Mackey Were the main 2 big men all season. He had transferred from Chippewa junior college, wherever that is.

There was but Johnny was the starter and, as much as I love Mad Dog personally (he is so funny and I enjoyed getting to talk to him a lot when we covered the team in 1988-89), Johnny really was the guy.

Here is our roster for 2024-25 as it now stands:

PG - George, McCollum
SG - Terry, Reeves, Mustaf
SF - Sutton, O'Brien
PF - Ndongo, Souare, Kirouac
C - Onwuchekwa, Mutombo

I might want to sauce my crow with Texas Pete and say it looks like we could still use a big. But, It may make more sense to just get the best player and not worry too much about what position he will play. We're gonna play five out no matter what.

George and McCollum will be the back court most of the time with Terry coming off the bench for offense. Reeves and Mustaf will be at the wings. O'Brien and Ndongo will handle PF. A developing Onwuchekwa, and Mutombo will handle the middle with Ndongo playing there some. Sutton will get time as the season progresses.

I believe We will see a constantly changing rotation of George, McCollum, Terry, Mustaf, Reeves and O'Brien At the 1, 2, and 3. It could evolve into a narrower group as the season progresses. I remember last year we all thought Abrams would be our stating PG.

As we saw last year with ED and Claude, Ndongo will pair up with either of our two experienced bigs when matchups warrant. Otherwise Baye will play with four of the "guards" plus, occasionally, Sutton.

We have eight solid guys, plus a couple more who could give us meaningful minutes as needed. Don't get too excited about this group. I am still concerned that we don't have enough reliable shooters.

Would be nice to have an accomplished big but I think we can live with this line up, with its expected growing pains, and enjoy having a solid big in 2 years.

This lineup is good enough, in my opinion, to make some noise in the coming season.
