GT is high on the list of BIG interest. Higher than most in ACC. BIG has wanted a prcense in Atlanta a long time. Before you start with FB relevance, BIG added Rutgers for geographical reasons, not sports excellense.
When I have listened to Big 10 officials they want big media mkts, AAU schools and schools that are committed to having good athletic programs. We qualify in all three now that our Pres. has made his commitment. "we will do whatever it takes to win at the highest level" Hired an AD that's an outstanding money raiser, has vision etc. Atlanta bounces between 6-7 media mkt and really growing fast.

You can see the skyline of the number one media mkt from the Rutgers campus.

I'm one that believes professional sports is headed into some really bad times, not allowed to give my reasons on here or the Swarm police will get me.

If GTFB can have a really good year this year I believe you will see the media get behind us because they want to promote GT for the prospects of the 6th media mkt and what will eventually end up being a National CFB conference. If GT performs we'll see if I'm right.

Some of us just don’t believe Tech is extinct yet.
Very interesting choice of words at the end of your sentence. I believe two things a) Tech will not be extinct but will fall to the category of the UConns and USF's of the world and b) we will beat FSU in Ireland. Barring injuries I suspect I will have a fairly good size bet on GT on the money line. This will be the surprise win of our season that will excite the fanbase, elevate the expectations and then, ultimately, burst everyone's bubble as the Jackets end up at 6-6 or 7-5. Either way it will be more than 5.5 wins and the season total will be surpassed.

Interesting choice of teams, considering both have been talked about as expansion candidates. I'd also love to "fall" to the level of winning back to back basketball natties ;)

I think we knock off FSU in Ireland too, but unless we end up with a bunch of critical injuries I think we end up with 7-9 wins.

According to FootballScoop, GT is the 52nd most attractive program for expansion. Its primary value is the Atlanta media market, but … that’s it. I recall that 538 did a similar study and found GT unattractive as an expansion candidate.

Regardless, Tech football will continue. The only question is can it survive at the same level under a diminished media rights contract? I would feel a lot better if GT would address the debt.

The mods thought we were bickering. I think we are clarifying where Tech is on the extinction timeline. I’m optimistic and think the stadium changes are one of several positive signs.

That B1G invitation is right around the corner. 😉

Interesting take but remember this is only a take. Replying future G5 school on every post is merely an opinion, so be ready for rebuttals lol.

I know online forums is the place for takes- so here is mine and everyone else’s for yours: We seriously don’t have much reason to think the odds of us going G5 are higher than going P2.

If your reasoning is Clemson and FSU might leave in a couple years- This does not send GT to UConn level. And again, the odds of us upgrading as well are still high. We are a high potential market and strengthening program.

"We will do whatever it takes for GTFB to win at the very highest level" I take him for what he said until I see that he is not committed to that. What I'm seeing so far tells me he is committed to that statement. I'm also seeing, hearing of things coming that tell me there is a lot more going on than we see, yes we need to see them actually play out for a shocking number of people on here. Can I guarantee it is and will happen, no but I don't have to, I can see a picture and I believe we are committed by those at the top. They are not doing what they are doing without knowing where they are going and will end up, I feel that very, very strongly, they are not dumb ***.

What shocks me on here is how few people have any vision at all, it's like zero vision for so many, I'm blessed I guess because that has never been a world I have lived in.

I don’t think it’s a vision thing. I think it’s a “that’s not a place I wanna be” thing. Just my $.02, I don’t want to follow a team full of hirelings.

When they start winning, and I'm convinced they will in time, we'll see where all those walk aways go. We may end up with a lot of new fans, winning always brings them. When they were winning big in the fifties there were tons of non GT season ticket holders. Of course in this day and time the TV draw is the bigger thing and if we start winning consistently every year tv viewership will go up and that could be some BIG numbers.

The reason why we will get an invite to the Big10.

ATL

And no I don’t mean some douchey marketing by the former guy. I mean ATL as in Hartsflield-Jackson International airport. The ability for us to get around the country as well as have other teams come from small markets come play us is 10 times easier than getting to Raleigh or Durham or Clemson or Athens or Knoxville. Most of those flights will go THROUGH ATL. I guarantee there aren't direct flights from most of these college towns direct to these other college towns. Yes you can charter a flight but I’m guessing a lot of these towns like Starkville and Fayetteville can’t even handle the larger planes like a 319 or 320 that most teams probably use.

Logistically we have a ton to offer. As well as the fact that a lot of their alumni live in ATL or would travel to ATL to see a game.

Clemson and Athens I agree with. Raleigh / Durham/ Chapel Hill you have obviously never been to before. The ‘ triangle’ is becoming the tech hub / Silicon Valley of the east. Raleigh and surrounding areas are growing at a staggering rate. Look it up.

Service to and from Atlanta is likely to go to Charlie Brown.

Most teams I know, Delta offers charter service. The players and coaches fly. That’s a big reason why the SEC has at least tried to keep some regionality to expansion. It’s not a big deal for say, Bama, to bus to Starkville, Auburn, or Vandy. Longer than 4 hours, call Delta.

One of the main issues for ACC expansion with Stanford and Cal because of travel. It costs a lot and it’s a major inconvenience to players.

Transporting players isn’t the problem. It’s the gear. That all travels by truck. Playing a West Coast team is one week out, one week back. Midwest? 3-4 days out, 3-4 back. Plus all the employees to pack, unpack, set up the training rooms, the prep rooms, etc. They don’t get to fly.

And they travel very fast with escorts. Had the Bama team pass me on I-20 after an $EC championship. I never knew the charter buses could travel so fast. With police escort they were topping 90.

NASCAR is a great example. Just have 2 drivers rotate and the trip is MAX 3 days to Cali from North Carolina. The team managers do fly with the team, but instead of heading to the hotel when they land, they head to the stadium to unload the trucks and set up the locker room. Plenty of YouTube videos document this. The big issue would be an ACC team having an away game on Saturday and then a Thursday night game in the opposite coast. But more than likely will just head from the away game to the other coast and do class online.

Of course, Hawaii (not a rich program by any standard) travels more miles than any team and I'm sure that is a source folks contact on how to do the logistics.
