Carson had the best winning percentage against VD of any tech coach.
OK. VD coached against Dodd (0-3), Carson (2-3), Fulcher (0-2), Rodgers (2-4), Curry (2-5), and Ross (0-2).

Dodd had an overall record vs. UGA of 12-10 and Ross of 2-3.

I didn’t get into college football until I went to Tech so AJ Suggs (2002). Only shining moment I recall was the comeback against NCST and Phillip Rivers… otherwise a very Chanesque 7-6 season including getting blown out in Athens…

I went to that game in Raleigh. They were 7-0 until we beat them. That may have been his best game in a GT uniform. I think they had the younger brother of Terry Holt (sp?) at WR. He was darn good player too. BTW Raleigh just got chosen as the most boring city in NC. Stansbury should fit right in.

Mine was Billy Lothridge. At any rate he was the first I saw in person. He was deceptively fast (he never actually looked like he was going fast, then people kept missing him because they ended up behind), and a really good passer on the run. And, of course, he could both punt and place-kick, well enough to where that became his job in the pros. I enjoyed watching him a lot.

My next favorite was Larry Good. One of the best passers in Tech history and a great runner. His teammates called his running style the Camilla Shuffle: he was from Camilla and he was very,.very hard to hit straight on. I loved to watch him play. But not as much as Billy.

Tevin Washington going ham against Kansas and running the option masterfully that season with his wobbly throws.

Technically I watched Iowa kill us in the Orange Bowl but was not a fan yet which I guess would have been Nesbitt?

So, I had started a thread within a thread about everyone’s first Tech game and I noticed a few Billy Lothridge mentions.

For another thread, how about your first GT QB when you started following Tech and what was your favorite memory/play/game?

all I have to say is: The Goose.
its insane that I remember him when I was so young. I grew up with Reggie and I will always have his back. He loves Tech. Of course - Calvin’s NC State catch

what say you?
Unfortunately, I date myself with this one. Billy Lothridge. Runner up to Roger Staubach in the Heisman voting. Three year starter. Beat UGA every year. Architect of what Dodd called his greatest victory 7-6 over number one Alabama. Dodd thought he was slow but he could run when he had to. It helped, a lot, that he had some really good players around him. Dave Watson, Rufus Guthrie, Billy Martin, Ted Davis, etc. He also was the field goal kicker and the punter. He was nicknamed "Mr. Everything".

I was sitting in the north stands and as I dimly recall there was a brawl in the end zone for some reason. Do you remember that? Great game for fans...not so much for coaches.
As a freshman and the drinking age just being lowered to 18, I really don’t remember nearly what I should about my first quarter at Ma Tech!
